Title: New to the game
Post by: Ajjakey on January 05, 2013, 11:32:37 AM
I have been playing magic on the Xbox and want to start playing it face to face with people any tips on what deck would be a good first deck to get. Is there anyone from Newcastle England on here as well so I can find out where to play people

A good way to start playing in real life would be to buy an event deck. Event decks are pre-made decks that you can buy at a store that are ready to be played. They also come with useful booklets that give you hints on how to play. Also, you should find a local gaming store (LGS) close to where you live. Once you do, you can go there on a regular basis to get aquainted to the shop owner and the people who already go there. You can participate in Friday Night Magic (FNM) and eventually become familiar with your local Magic community.

I started by buying 2 intro/event decks of different colors (ones that work well together, like black/red) and kinda made one deck by taking cards from each and putting them together. This is a good idea if you want a unique deck, not a completely premade one.

I the more experienced player at your LGS are not willing or happy to help a new player learn the ropes and increase their skills then they are douches that you are better off not playing with in the first place.

Dont spend time watching for a few weeks, if you just play those few weeks will rocket your skills up. Instead f watching, if you play those weeks and ask insightful relevant questions, youll be ready to build your own decks and have ideas floating around in your head like you wouldnt believe. Play play and play some more.
