I've been having an argument with my friends for the past few weeks:
My argument - even in a mono color deck Evolving Wilds/Terramorphic expanse is useful because it essentially increases your probability of drawing a spell while still maintaining the number of lands.
My friends just can't see my reasoning on this - they maintain it would be better to just have a regular land.
Am I right? Am I crazy? Could someone back me up on this?!
I have done this before. You are right on the advantages. It reduces the number of possible land draws by 2 so your odds to draw a productive card (Of any type) are increased. It speeds up your deck in a small way, acting somewhat like draw spells.

You're not crazy. Using them thins your deck and increases your chance of drawing a useful card. The drawback of these is that the lands you fetch come into play tapped.
I find them useful for fetching splashed colors. I suppose they could work in a mono color deck if your average mana cost was low (perhaps 2-3). Personally, I hate when anything comes into play tapped...
I used {evolving wilds} in my mono {B} deck and got criticized for it 😥. I agree with it being useful in mono decks. It's almost the same as using cantrips. Plus, tap and sac on your opponents turn and you get it untapped when its your turn.
It an free 'basic land' Farseek that let's you shuffle your deck and thin it out.
I love this card, combos well with {Augur of Bolas} after sending my pike to the bottom.
I like splashing utility lands in mono colored decks, because you just can! Unless your running {Lashwrithe} or something. Just throw in 8 duals and the Utility of your choice, and bam! Re-useable spells. There's 4 options for each color too. I.E. {Moorland Haunt}, {Grim Backwoods}, {Kessig Wolf Run}
I would prefer fetchlands if you can afford them because of how small the difference is and that often the Wilds will slow you down sognificantly, so I'd rather not use wild or expanse as a deck hinner in an aggro or midrange deck.

That's a good point - if I had the money I totally would.
