Lemme edit my original post... I played Grixis in my first draft ever and it was RtR, went 2-1. How hard are drafts usually? It seemed pretty straightforward to me, but there were a lot of people missing so I don't know the actual competition level, if those were some of the best or the worst.
It's hard to say how "difficult" a draft is. It depends on
1: the cards you get,
2: the cards your opponents get,
3: your ability to pick and choose wisely in the draft,
4: your opponents' ability to pick and choose wisely in the draft,
5: your skill at constructing a deck,
6: your opponents' deck construction skills,
7: your skill at playing magic,
8: your opponents' skill at playing magic,
9: a moderate dose of luck, both in the drafting procedure and the gameplay.
As you can see there are a lot of places that a draft can sway for or against you. In the same group of people, its easy to get 1st place one week and last the next.
Unfortunately only one of the 7 people was even moderately normal... He was pretty chill though, but for the mos part they were a pretty rough group socially. Idk if i can force myself back there until gatecrash. So until then ill consider myself awesome ;p jk jk
Odds are there's more than one place around offering a draft - check wizard's fnm locator and see if you can find different places and different groups of people of that one didn't click with you. Magic is a social game, so liking the people you're with makes a big difference.
