What is ante??? I've read it on some old card and am confused!!!!!! As in card like {Bronze Tablet}
Playing for keeps!
I believe it was when people used to put cards on the line when they dueled. The cards that they bet were called the ante, and then whoever won would get the card.
Ahh!
Every ante card is banned from all formats, and it was a decision to get rid of it, as it constituted gambling. The removal of antes is one of the reasons Magic is still around today.
In the early days, playing for ante required you to ante 1 card off the top of your library during pregame. Then it became a wager on the match. Fun. But gambling.
Iol me and a buddy tried it in a casual game and we both hit an expensive land at the time like shocklands and we both just said uhhh nope not doing this lmao
Way early on I anted a Swamp against a {Shivan Dragon} and won. Ante was dumb.
Ante was fun. It raised the stakes. I remember a game of emperor that had a $300 total ante. Gets your heart going... It was fun.
I liked it to remove random card from a deck. Didn't play for keeps just to see what they couldn't use
