This makes me sad but I guess it's the way mtg is going announce triggers or they don't happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EEb-CRLC84&sns=em

I agree with the video, I'd feel like such a bad guy for taking advantage like that.

Sit down for match
Pull out deck and mat
Extend hand and introduce self
Ask opponent "shall we play by the rules of the game and every major religion or listen to the judge's?"

It's difficult to say. Magic is the most popular it has ever been since its inception. Look at the attendance of any MtG related event. Thousands of players show up for Open events, it used to be in the hundreds. Triggers have always been the black mark on Magic's accessibility, because its not really a good system. Nothing in the rules ever truly enforces any triggers at all, because there are beneficial triggers and negative triggers.

Players wouldn't want to enforce negative triggers that do harm to them, and would want to enforce benefittial triggers. Once the trigger period is over and a player neglected their trigger (knowingly or otherwise) it is now considered not cheating; it used to be each player had to enforce it otherwise is neglecting the game state and was considered cheating.

Basically, everyone is expected to know what is going on at all times, and it is no longer considered "cheating" to not tell your opponent that they have a trigger.

It's good and bad. I like not telling my opponent how to kill me. But I like helping new players to realize how what they're playing, could kill me.
