I got into contact with my dad's roommate from college, whom I know has played Magic since Alpha. He no longer plays- he said he missed the strategy of it but it was time to move on. He is mailing me his vast collection of cards- I have no idea what to expect but I know from when I was little that his collection is huge.
What should I expect from a collection like this? Speculation? Thoughts? I'll let everyone know what I get.

I wouldn't expect anything over 50 dollar cards. I think that if he was really a good player, he would have known he could sell the money cards.

I would agree but he has never played anything but kitchen table magic. He thought I wouldn't want all of his old cards because they were old :D

He probably traded away his big money cards way back when, like I did before I knew what anything was worth. However, he will probably have some cool stuff that wasn't worth much back in the day but is valuable now.
I heard portal three kingdoms or something is crazy expensive. Maybe portal too. Look up the symbols and keep them if you get them

He just dropped off the cards. A huge shopping bag full of them. I've only gone through 2 boxes, but I have found some great cards like {Bayou} and {Bloodstained Mire}!
