Mana pools empty at the end of phases so the braid would only make mana on your upkeep. By the time it's your main phase, the mana is gone.

Just find an instant with {X} dump and fire it off. Or something with a massive cumulative upkeep and use it to pay it off.

{Comet Storm}  comes to mind.

Last I heard, mana pools empty at the end phase only, unless you have a card which negates the pool emptying.

Last I heard, mana pools empty at the end phase only, unless you have a card which negates the pool emptying.
Nope, every phase change. Mana produced before combat cant be used during combat for example.

Hmm, using the {gemstone array}, you can then lock things up with a {stasis} and really annoy your opponant.
