Title: DA pre-release
Post by: JakeyWakey on January 27, 2012, 10:26:25 PM
Just thought I'd open a thread about the tournaments that everyone participates in, my local card shop is holding a mid-night pre-release event that starts in a few hours so I'll be posting about it soo! Good luck to all, and happy tapping!

So I decided against a black blue mill/flyer deck to go with a r/g with an incredible amount of burn. 16 players, no one pulled a sorin :( but I'm confident I'll do well. We're starting in 10mins! I'm so excited! First place is 6 packs.

All and all I did ok at the event, won 2, lost 2. Out of the 3 boxes we opened no one pulled a {sorin, lord of innastrad}, or {havengul lich} I didn't pull much of anything, got a {vault of the archangel} in my prize pack. My brother pulled {huntmaster of the fells} and {drogskoll wreaver} In one pack. I know I didn't use any DA rates in my deck, so I must not have pulled great stuff, lol. Anyway hope everyone else has fun!

We had somewhere around 50(I think). We saw 2 sorrens, at least 4 vorapedes, a Geist, Mikeaus, and I got a helvault and the mythic white that gives you health for every card in your GY.

There was 68 people at the one here. There was one Sorin pulled and I pulled it. What sucks is I had to give it some one else after I completed my check list. Although I place 5th with crappy cards I received. My best rare was a {Nevermore}. So my deck 100% common and uncommon.

I may get to go tomorrow. 
I'll post my deck in the "others" forum. 

Why'd you have tp give it up?

At a lot of sealed events, you don't keep the cards you open. You open them, check them, then pass them down the table.

At our sealed everyone keeps whatever packs and cards they pull

It is stupid and it kind of defeats the purpose of a sealed event

Humn never seen the checklist for these events. The only way I seen passing cards from a sealed even is on a draft you open you pack pull a card and pass. Keep doing this till all the cards are passed out. But where I play if it's an exceptional pack you can keep it and quit or sometimes by a replacement pack. The guy who runs it is pretty cool about this stuff and wants everyone to have fun

It for events where some of the cards have already been released. It's to prevent people from cheating by bringing in their own cards. I don't think a lot of places do this any more with the changes to the prerelease structure. It was more important when there was only one major event per area. You had 150+ ppl turning out.

I'm curious as to how the "check-list" of a Pre-release works as well, I think he was asking for a link to better explain it.

It's pretty simple, just mark down how many cards you have, then the one who receives the cards double checks.

I don't like it, since it always leads to moments where people have to hand off great cards.

Ok I see the checklist but how does the giving cards away work? That's what I don't get. What happens? Does everyone give their mythics back and they randomly hand them out

Step1: open the cards and mark down what you opened
Step2: pass all of the cards around the table the number of times told by the official
Step3: check the cards
Step4:play.

At our tourney. We check the cards, put them in a box on the officials table, then he handed them out. He gave 20min to check the list n make sure it was right. Then he gave us 30 min to build our deck with cards we received. The place o go does this at every prerelease since the Alara block. There a shop that always hold a midnight tourney down the street and some people do go and then come to the one on Saturday and try to cheat.

So are they all handed out randomly? So some people get OP decks no matter what they open?

I think this way you would be more likely to cheat keep a few rears on you and swap them out for the expensive ones

There were 8 people at mine. There was a sorin pulled. The person how pulled had some of the best card to work with and he made it rainbow and put all the cards together.i won hardly just because of undying.

Being fairly new to magic this was my 2nd pre release (first was new phrexia) I was still pretty hesitant to go and first time I had to do the deckcheck pass thing (someone pulled liliana and a sorin and just got up and left). It was really enjoyable I placed 6th out of 50 some odd people what was a huge boost for me placing so well(it's not 1st but it's a start). Got 6 packs (but pulled garbage) and met alot of nice people I was playing against. All and all I had a great day and will probably return when the next set comes out.

Crazy thing, at the pre-release in the three Innistrad packs I opened... One red card. That's it!  Double red {Traitorous Bond} to boot. Needless to say, I didn't run red that day.  ðŸ"¥ðŸ'Ž
