Title: Double Strike, Trample
Post by: Kerebrus on December 02, 2012, 12:30:15 AM
I'm sure this has been discussed before but I wanted a quick clarification on something. Say I swing with a 6/4 double strike trampler, and he is blocked by a 2/2. Does my opponent only take the difference from the first trample damage and nothing from the second which comes out to 4 damage? Or do they take the trample damage from the first strike and because they have no toughness left to block with they take the second set of trample damage equalling 10?

Yes it would deal 10.

Now if a card with double strike attacks say a 5/5, and is blocked by a 2/2 would it only deal enough to kill the 2/2 and that's it or would its second attack hit directly?

If a creature with double strike attacks a player or plainswalker and is blocked, it deals no damage to the defending player, regardless of the attacker and blockers' toughness.

However if the 5/5 double striker with trample was blocked by a 2/2, the 5/5 would deal 8 damage to the player or plainswalker it is attacking. But again if it didn't have trample, it would just swing "at the air" so to speak.

Even it a creature has double strike, if it is blocked and does not have trample it does not hit.
