Title: Pack Rat
Post by: Dudecore on November 17, 2012, 11:45:15 PM
What is everyone's opinion of banning {Pack Rat} from RtR limited? I don't think it's a good idea, because of the fact it's usually the only rare in a pack, and 1 (while insanely dangerous) isn't as bad as if someone had 2.

But as far as limited cards do, it's just about one of the best cards you can run.

Banning a card in limited is a silly notion. The whole point of limited is you play what you get, and if you get a card you can't play by force, it defeats the purpose of the format. It doesn't matter if pack rat is really good in the format. You can kill it when your opponent is tapped out and cant make copies. You can race against it. You can deal with it.

If people request bans on cards just because it beat them, we're going to end up with decks of 40 basic lands.

They got banned from block constructed. There is no ban list for limited, check DCI

That would be dumb. How, exactly, would you "ban" a card in Limited?

It's beatable. I just drafted the other day and one guy went turn 2 {Pack Rat}. I untapped and played {Augur Spree}, with a smile on my face.

{Pack Rat} is horribly op in limited. Your only chance to win once it comes out is to happen to have removal ready for it or have happened to pull  {Detention Sphere}. No other card in the format can blow out games like  {Pack Rat}... You have 40 cards in a deck, the best play when you have out a rat is tap 3 and discard, always.

{Pack Rat} isn't unstoppable,  {Street Spasm},  {Electrickery},  {Angel of Serenity},  {Pithing Needle},  {Cyclonic Rift}, just a few cards that can help beat pack rat. There are ways, plus instant removal while they're attacking really hurts if you block right.
