Title: FNM Results Discussion
Post by: Dudecore on November 15, 2012, 05:36:13 PM
Please restrict the amount of FNM posts and related posts into this area. Lets help keep the board clean AND have a place to go to get your information.

- Love,

Running out my Esper Spirits again. I've played it at about 2 FNMs (FNM rotates between Limited and Constructed here). So far I'm at .500. Added 8 counterspells (up from 4). It's 61 cards, which isn't the end of the world.

My Esper Delver (will post a list at some point). Won. Lol jk of course not, I am playing it this week because Delver kills Thragtusk decks, and my Delver will statistically flip 1/2 of the time, considering I am running 30 instants and sorceries. I made a gauntlet to play against on cockatrice, and the deck beats Bant, Zombies, and T-Fog, the three BIG decks in my meta. And yes, T-Fog is super popular in my meta. It's almost complyely formed around T-Fog an decks that are good against T-Fog. It kicked REANIMATOR out of the meta!!! All because I won my stores largest FNM ever with it. 😝 Turbofog is the DECK TO BEAT!!! Oh yea, and Big Red (RDW, but it more like big red, is also part of the popular meta.)

The stars have aligned and I will actually get to play in a Fnm. I will be running a g/w humans deck. I'm not sure what the meta is at our store so I don't know what to expect.

FNM was constructed. Went 3-2 with Esper Midrange. http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?topic=15098.0
Mostly user error again. I love {Augur of Bolas} but 2 different games I used him I passed over {Restoration Angel} and {Runechanter's Pike}. But I love how he can block {Gravecrawler} and most other early game baddies.

I played G/W humans tonight at FNM standard. I went 2-2 and should have been 3-1 if I hadn't made a stupid mistake on which creature to pump with selensya charm..It was a rookie mistake that I wont make again. From now on I will take a few more seconds to make sure I'm making the right decision, and not let myself feel  pressured to decided to quickly. I hope everyone else had as much fun as i did tonight.

I had to use my burn deck because my spirit deck was missing some cards and went 0-3 lol show how burn decks work at my FNM
Title: Re: FNM Results Discussion
Post by: Kaleo42 on December 01, 2012, 11:16:21 PM
3-1-1 using an omnisience combo deck. The tie was voluntary to ensure we each got 3 packs. The transformation sideboard saved me against rdw and vamps while the mainboard handled most everything else with minor side ins.

I went 0-0-4 with UW Delver... went to time every match, all against aggro lol a little too grindy vs aggro. One game against GW aggro we didn't even finish game 1.

FNM 12/07/12
- What decks are you playing?

- Will I ever get through a thread without hating on {Thragtusk}?
- How do you feel about the current standard environment?
Title: Re: FNM Results Discussion
Post by: Kaleo42 on December 04, 2012, 11:12:30 PM

- Im playing 5 color lotus again, but i am undecided on the focus for this week. Dennis is playing Competitive Rakdos.

- I expect to see junk re-animator, bant control, selesnya beats, rdw, planeswalker control, ramp in X spells, vampire control, naya aggro, spirits (both aggro and control), low budget tokens, low budget werewolves, and rakdos variants

- I love the randommosity but it hasnt served me too well this month, last week was my best record in a month and im having trouble adjusting to not being in the winner's circle. I have to find the balnce between swallowing my pride to conform to winning strategies and being truly creative.

Draft this week at FNM. I am gonna make next week my last chance with this deck: http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?topic=15098.0

I'm holding out that Control might be viable, unfortunately too many decks are aggro and without an amazing counterspell ({Syncopate} being the only thing really resembling a playable counterspell) and ramp decks I'm having problems.

I've played some form of control/tempo for my entire MtG career, this is one of the worst environments I can remember. I almost need to splash red for {Pillar of Flame} for {Gravecrawler}, {Geralf's Messenger} and mostly any ?/2 creature.

I'm gonna try my altered Jund Control. Went 3-0 last two weeks I played with it, but I needed a nastier deck for meta. Looking at naya, bant, rdw, and plenty of thragtusk this weekend.

Title: Re: FNM Results Discussion
Post by: Dudecore on December 06, 2012, 12:42:28 AM
In my playgroup tonight I went 0-5 in game 1. Then went 20-0 in game 2-3. Standard does have a real problem with no "good" counterspells, {Syncopate} does do work, but not really enough. Aggro is king, my undefeated game 2+ was strictly based on sideboarding my control cards for aggro.

Try {Knight of Glory} in sideboard?  The meta shifted so far away from BRaggro at my LGS, GW Aggro is now about 55% the meta. I'm running {Knight of Infamy} to slow down {Silverblade Paladin} & {Loxodon Smiter}.

I'm running one of those defender mill decks with the {Axebane Guardian} + {Galvanic Alchemist} combo. I also run {Ludevic's Test Subject} because I can flip it very quickly. At FNM I went 2-2. Lost to tokens and rakdos Aggro but I beat reanimator and killed a BOW deck :)

3-2 this week. Bad mana screw led to a round 5 loss against a favorable match-up, oh well. 5 color lotus performed very well and still caught people off guard when i dropped three cards and said game over.

The rare Monday night playgroup went 7-0 (we play a bunch of games...) with http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?topic=15098.0 . Gonna play test again Wednesday and Thursday before FNM. I don't love relying on {Runechanter's Pike}, but my lord is that card unstoppable vs. Rakdos.

3-1

Lost to a stupid {Lingering Souls} token deck, my deck was acting very shy 1st game and could not get a {Sever the Bloodline} to save my life.
Title: Re: FNM Results Discussion
Post by: Coffee Vampire on December 15, 2012, 12:57:43 AM
I won first tonight with a janky mill deck that I extracted from my Battle of Wits deck. It only had 4 mill cards: 2 {Jace, Memory Adept}, 1 {Psychic Spiral}, and 1 {Increasing Confusion}.

The star of the deck was {Snapcaster Mage}. I had 3 {Peel From Reality} and 4 {Devastation Tide} so snappy was always back to my hand. So abusive lol

I faced rakdos aggro (2-0), rakdos midrangey (2-1), mono white humans(1-1-1), and jund midrange (2-0).

Only won 2 out of 5 rounds with my white/green/red damage. I have to admit 95% of my losses were a result of very poor shuffling and poor quality hands. Anyone have any shuffling techniques that could help me? The two rounds I did win, it was over in 3-4 turns so I know it's a pretty solid deck.

Im just not feeling the fog yet. I have it ready to go, but i keep deciding to play Lotus for one reason or another.

2-1-1 tonight with my loss and draw both going the same way: game 1 rush out i lose, game 2 i sideboard transform and stomp them, game three they get a lucky top deck that was the only card that could save them from getting blown out.

Back to Legacy and i wanna play more EDH. I quit standard many years ago, and came back after some time. Just taking a break. Might be a year, may be a few months.

Modern format doesn't interest me all that much, the banned list is too extensive and it doesn't seem as healthy as Legacy.

Went 2-2 at 2 headed giant, and then straight into the prerelease at midnight.  There I went 3-1 and won 6 packs of Gatecrash.  They will be handing those out next week when it is released because they did not have all their prize support.

Got second with my mono black heartless deck. My only loss was to the guy who came first, who was rocking a {U}{W}{B} control and milling deck. He milled me out twice with  {Jace, Memory Adept} and  {Nephalia Drownyard} quicker than I could drop him to 0.

5-0 at fnm with 5 color control.
-Beat elven ramp fairly easy, one wrath and then turn aggro with kessig.
-Beat orzhov bleed with relative ease.
-Beat sylvan crypt. This was an interesting deck. The basic idea was {crypt ghast} and dork ramp into big dudes like {sylvan primordial}. The land destruction sub theme was threatening but some well played {slaughter games} and {snapcaster mage} got it.
-Beat werewolves. Lost game one to rush and then brought in extra creatures that were bigger than his to buy time into {terminus}. Games two and three were easy.
-Beat american control. This was difficult to play but over all a fairly easy match when you play carefully.
P.S. Oddly {rhox faithmender} made a huge impact on the games tonight. The extra life, the blocking, and the durability to survive and then get pumped with kessig.

Dennis and Danny from my team each got 4-1 with reanimator combo. Dillon got 3-2 or 4-1 (i didnt hear how his last match went) with Roach which is the esper token/ aristocrat build I developed.

This past Friday I went 4-1 with my bant auras so I top 4ed. Lost to Red Green agro. I've reconfigured my deck deck again and after main boarding a couple of {detention spheres}, {Garruk relentless}, and a 4th {gift of orzhova} I'm ready to try again this upcoming Friday.

I was going to go with feeling of dread and it's in the sideboard but it just didn't do enough to be main boarded. I was overwhelmed with too many creatures, usually of the same name. Plus the enchantments add to the synergy and the Garruk can also be a force against control.

It really depends on what everyone else is playing. Just build a deck that is fun to play, and go see what everyone else has. :)
Unless you can build a turn 3 win deck, then just do that. GL HF.

I went 3-2 last night with my bant midrange deck.  My 2 losses were to the same deck archetype, esper control.  This was a much larger fnm than I'm used to, and a different shop than I usually go to.  I needed  {Witchbane Orb}, and  {Psychic Spiral} in my sideboard, but esper control is never played at the little shop that I usually go to.  Much different meta there. :/

I'd say 3 color decks are alot of fun. I started out using a mono red deck but got bored with no options, 3-4 colors gives you those options. My two favorite builds are Naya and Jund, check out my profile for a Naya-midrange build I'm playing this Friday!

5-0 with werewolves this week. Ill explain and post a deck tech in the coming days.
I beat a jund aggro using high power golgari colored dudes with red burn and {madcap skills} and some rakdos color top end like {falkenrath aristocrat}. 2-0

Next was rakdos midrange. I thought it was aggro cause I saw {stromkirk noble} early but then he dropped all this burn and kill before playing a {desecration demon} that got there. So games two and three I out raced him knowing how I should play. 2-1

Game three I thought it was junk reanimator but I beat it two fast to tell. So I sideboarded incorrectly and lost game two. It turned out to be a junk utility (low cost, high impact cards like {deathrite shaman} and {vampire nighthawk}). Once I figured out how to sideboard properly for it I took it. 2-1

Wolf run bant. Shouldve been a hard match but I played around it properly game one since I know the archetype so well I could practically see his hand based on what and how he played. Game two I out raced the wrath with some good sideboarding. 2-0

Jund...my least favorite matchup. This guy stomped my 5CC last time we played and I wasnt sure how it would go. I rationed my threats well and forced awkward plays and blocks while maintaining a threating board presence that could deal damage every turn no matter how small. Game two I sided into a slight speed up but kept some top end so {thragtusk} and {garruk, primal hunter} couldnt bully me out. 2-0

3-1 again with my mono black heartless deck. Again.
I got average hands against a super powerful jund midrange deck that hit all it's cards. Two really close games, but I just couldn't get there.

Equal first! I tied with the other top placed deck as I won the first game, he won the second and we ran out of time with the third.

All in all. Very happy with my mono black deck. It seems to handle all things quite well once I get a good board position.

With a massive turnout for out Fnm last night (possibly something to do with pre release)
I did really well. Only had time for 4 rounds so plenty of people ended up on the same points.
I rocked in at equal second (along with 3 other people) only 1 person came first tho.

For possibly the last night, I was running my mono black heartless deck. And I'm actually really pleased with how well it works against all matchups.

I lost a few hands to bad opening hands and deciding not to mulligan, (5 lands, then mana flood was one) however I did win one game keeping 5 land handrails on in the night, so I guess that have me a false confidence that it could work.

Again {black cat} came through with some nice hand destruction, and I won a tough game off someone else's mis-play where I chump blocked with my  {Crypt Ghast} so that my two  {Reaper from the Abyss}' could destroy two  {Boros Reckoner}. Oops!

A really fast naya deck had me game one with no removal, so I sided in more and kept a bad hand which was my undoing of the night. Losing 2-0 we played a third for kicks and a smashed him. (My lesson here was don't keep bad hands)
It was my only loss for the night, but the rest I did really well.
Another round really would have sorted out proper rankings, as I ended above people who didn't drop a game all night. But all good. Everyone went home happy and shall be back in a few hours for the pre release.

Post by: JordanCirk on May 12, 2013, 12:33:07 PM
Went 5-1 with Naya midrange, getting 2nd.

First game was to bantchantments, which was no problem as I had amazing hands and he didn't draw spectral flights.

Second game was to a rug Aggro mash up, was very interesting to see though and got me looking into some rug decks.

Third & fourth games were against 'Mercia midrange, which were a bit rough until I boarded in  {Voice of Resurgence} and  {Assemble the Legion}. Assemble was just too much for them as voice stopped them from thinking twice/snap casting something.

Fifth & sixth games were against Jund midrange, which I can easily say is my hardest match up. First round I got slaughtered then boarded assemble and ended up running him over with it. Last game was awful, I have a terrible time mulliganing and ended up going from 1st to 2nd when he 2-0ed me.

All in all great night, happy with the turn out an the rare chance to play 6 matches.

I am going to try out a BUG  {Immortal Servitude} deck that I saw on yt, should be alot of fun. Ill hopefully put up the full list within the week.

took 4th last night with Gruul Aggro. FNM was RtR block constructed. this is what i ran
4 {Legion Loyalist}
4 {Rakdos Cackler}
3 {Mugging}
4 {Burning-Tree Emissary}
4 {Gore-House Chainwalker}
4 {Ash Zealot}
4 {Ghor-Clan Rampager}
3 {Armed/Dangerous}
2 {Mizzium Mortars}
4 {Boros Reckoner}
3 {Domri Rade}
2 {Temple Garden}
3 {Gruul Guildgate}
4 {Stomping Ground}
12 {Mountain}

Things I learned: {Domri Rade} is a beast in this format. Get his emblem, 9 out of ten times its game over. {Armed/Dangerous} is a meh card at best. Wished it was something else half the time. There is a definite lack of good direct damage in the format.  Went 3-1-1 in swiss, only lose to American Control. Played same person in Top 8 and blew him out of the water. Dropped at Top4 due to it getting late and wife wanting me to come home.  Only good pulls from prize packs was a {Young Pyromancer} and Garruk emblem.

Took my 8 year old to his first Fnm. He went 1-2 with my RDW that he had never played before. He did great, his loses were against 2 of our top players piloting legit decks. I went 2-1 running a r/g aggro deck I borrowed. I lost to the guy I borrowed it from so I didn't feel bad.
We played again this time my son was 2-2 with RDW. He lost to the girl who won with a nuts g/w deck, and a guy with a g/w life gain deck. I put together a g/w humans deck and went 3-1 with no testing. I lost to a top tier jund deck which ended up taking second place. It was a lot of fun :)

4-1 with Roach!!! Such a silly deck.

Highlight of the night.

2x {skirsdag high priest} and 5 lands in play
Opponent goes to kill a priest with a sacrificed {festering newt} on their turn
I cast {deputy of aquitals} in response and target the priest to save it, but before I let the ability resolve I tap all three and make a demon. Im not done... I also cast {village bellringer} and make 2 more demons and proceed to swing for 15 on my turn and I saved the priest.

T1-{Elixir of Immortality}
T2-{Blind Obedience}
T3-{Chalice of Life}
T4-{Rhox Faithmender}
T5-{Archangel of Thune} tapped the Chalice for a counter
T6-{Angel's Mercy}, activated {Elixir of Immortality} and tapped Chalice
T7-{Serra Avatar} and opponent scooped.

Second game went against a GR Agro bordering midrange went 2-0
Third game went against a RW Agro he nearly destroyed me with a combo doing 16 damage late game but I still pulled through and beat him that game and next going 2-0

3-0 WNM R/G hyper agro deck with white splashed for {boros charm}

Notable match ups were selesnya enchantments (brought in all the {skullcrack}s, in response burn the 1/1 lifelink enchantment creature)
and junk midrange (not fast enough, brought in a 4th boros charm)

4-0 with Selesnya Hexproof Auras (standard)
The best match was against a Jund deck that I completely shut out, he didn't even make me lose a single life or kill/make me lose a single thing. All he did was play creatures that did nothing for him because we couldn't use the 4-5 removal cards that were in his hand every game.

My LGS gives store credit. Its a $5 entry fee and you get a pack when you sign up. $2 goes into the prize pool. First place gets $1 for each person and the rest is dived among second and third. For example tonight first place got $18, second $12 and third $6

1-2 with my WRGB agro deck. Needs to adjust more to the new meta.

Valuable Lesson of the Week: {Magma Jet} is no good period. {Shock}'s many many times more useful.

Notable Matchups: Esper Control (1-2), GW Midrange (0-2)- magma jet can't take out {Fleecemane Lion} and it's almost a waste to use it on {Soldier of the Pantheon}. Bring in the shocks and {Lightning Strike}s and you'll be alright.

3-1 with junk reanimator. Was absolutely pooped on by esper control. The look on his face when he thought seized and saw 3 cards in my hand: {angel of serenity}, {lord of the void}, and {ashen rider}. Or the look on my face when my wincon against control was self-mill and {deathrite shaman} for damage. Got 3 shamans out, he {detention sphere}ed them away. I was at 2, he was at 30 with {blood baron of vizkopa} on board. I draw {naturalize}, which he {dissolve}s. He then {dissolve}s his {dissolve}. He then {dissolve}s his {dissolve} which is targeting his {dissolve} targeting my {naturalize}. Man, that was a match.

5-1 playing Kurama's BUG control. (Tweaked it a bit, 1 more abrupt decay, and replaced dissolve in the main with nightveil specters). Was a ton of fun to play, got to cast an opponents sphinx rev from the nightveil/caryatid duo.

Note: I feel Polukranos needs to replace something, had my back against the wall against Mono red devotion. Reaper and prophet were deffinetly the all-stars in the deck. Only loss was against Esper, I just played poorly at the end and never resolved a jace memory adapt.

I ran a blue white Deck build around Daxos of Meletis with a ton of clones and enchantments. It tended to wreck the Monsters decks and the mono blue decks, but I had a little trouble with mono black. I got swamped by pack rats twice. Its not a fun way to lose. My overall score from the night was 8-2

Nice! Also you play UW try to add some {Supreme Verdicts} or even {Detention Spheres} :P but awesome job! 8-2 is great

Thanks. The detention sphere did some work against a monsters deck. And Supreme Verdict wipes out all my enchantments which is not a happy wya to do it

Yeah, but I changed it around quite a bit. Most notable changes are 4x {Selesnya Guildgates}, some {Gift of Orzhova} and some {Holy Mantle}s.

Definitely. The deck is going to be changed around a lot because I love Born of the Gods so I am going to be screwing around with all sorts of heroic/aura/aggro/hexproof builds.

Unfortunately not enough people came for standard so we did a chaos draft. The 6 of us each chose our own combination of current rotation packs. Only $8 too didn't hurt.

I totally rare drafted and got my money back. I really wanted to play standard, and fortunately my griping about traditional theros/bng draft led to this chaos draft.

Council of the absolute
Temple of abandon
Young pyromancer
Syncopate
Underworld Cerberus

'twas a silly draft

What all did you end up side boarding in?

With my naya I end up only bringing in:
+ 3 {mending touch}
+ 1 {revoke existence}
+ 2 {selesenyea charm}

I used to run one of {glare heresy} in the sideboard which dubbed for white weenies or brimaz decks/fm still messing with the sb. Honestly depends on how many boros burners I spot around playing the one mindless deck that finally got them top 8 :P forcing Te three {gift of orzhov} in.

7 ways of a turn three scoop to ruin their day :)

I took 2nd so stoked ran my white weenie splash blue for controll and green for strength.
Shocked me that I made it that far. I went
10-2-0 my only loss whas to the guy that took 1st he destroyed my deck tho first matc against azorious controll
2nd against mono black
3rd a boros burn( couldn't Handel my fiendslayer paladin)
4th bant
That's what got me into the top 4
Took all those down
1st round of the top 4
Played against a selesnya token deck I used
My {curse of swine} combo with {detention sphere} borde wipe swing for game won
Moved onto the top 2
Played against another mono black lost cause I mulliganed due to off color lands and than got smashed by desecration Demon didn't draw a single d sphere or fiendslayer fabled hero helped me stay alive a bit but it couldn't save me still had fun tho.

BaBa : what's wrong with the Boros Burner deck ?

I ended up top 1, two times out of the last four FNM at my store, and in the top 3 one other time. It is not as mindless as you think it is, I beleive. During the first few turns, there is a lot of decision making, choosing to burn the opponent or it's creatures. Making the right choice then makes all the difference in the world. Also, I discovered recently that I'm usually better burning my opponent for 4 with Boros Charm, rather than protect my Young Pyromancer with it, in response to any removal played against him (even early in the match). And I use agressively a very concentrated sidedeck (4 Peak Eruption, 4 Anger of the Gods, 3 Chained to the Rocks, 2 Fiendslayer Paladin, and 2 Fated Conflagration). I made the choice of running main deck 4 Skull Cracks, a card that most others don't see in that position. I think I crafted a very competitive deck, using absolutely no deck lists, but just good thinking and a lot of trial and errors.

Some opponents are very frustated losing to this deck. Frankly, I don't know why...
There's a fairly good deck the owner of my LGS made where he makes tons of tokens and burns the opponent to death using {Purphoros God of the forge}. It runs searing bloods, skull cracks, lightning strikes, molten Rebirths and Massive raids alongside cards like young pyromancer and satyr Firedancer to remove threats and deal loads of damage. It's top threed the last 6 FNMS

I went 3-2 with red boros burn deck, list my first two but next 3

I like to say boros reckonor is a game stomper when u have 2 on the field

Final game was one like this .

Opponent is at 10, and is tapped out

Cards in my feild , young pyromancer, 2 Chandra's Phoenix

So I tapped one for shock for 2,
Tapped 2 played searing blood for 2
Them swung in for 6,
Game over

4-0 with a weird version of RDW. No reckoners, mutavaults, fanatics, burning trees, of Phoenix's! I wasn't planning on playing standard, but a buddy of mine asked me to come along late the night before. So I built one (entitled Red Deck Does Win!) and went 4-0!! Ended 2 games on turn 3, by swinging for 17 once, and 19 the other.

Game Day. Rabble Red. 3-2 Swiss 5th on Tiebreakers. Won the entire thing. Game Day Mat, the two promos, and 21 packs. Zero play testing on the deck, was pretty much learning it on the go. People say that it is a mindless aggro deck, but it isn't.  There are a lot of minute combat tricks and interactions with-in the deck and with the opponent. One misplay with a skilled opponent, and you will suffer... But its a fun deck :)

Of only my gameday was only 5 rounds xD, I did not attend this year but mine is 7-8 with 80-120+ people.. Ranging from 6-8 rounds with a top 8 cut.  But luckily now I'm used to a lot of rounds from SCG opens, iqs etc. but I did do a launch event with 50-70 people and went 5-1 and tied the last round to get into top eight. I did not make it very far in the top eight but won a fat pack worth of packs;) first place got 25 packs :( I was playing boros burn, hopefully you did not run into that considering that is a verrrry bad matchup for you:(

I would have loved to go against Boros burn!!!
Round one: Esper Control 1-2
Round Two: mono-blue devotion 2-0
Round Three: Izzet Pyrocaster 1-2
Round Four: GW aggro 2-0
Round Five: UW control splash red 2-1
Top 8: Esper control 2-0
Top 4: GW Aggro 2-1
Finals: Jund Walkers 2-1

This is probably a dead thread but hopefully I can spark some interest in it. I was playing UW heroic. My results:

Round 1: Playing against the only deck that beat me last week, chromantiflayer but it's main plan is be the sidisi value deck and if things go late you have chromantiflayer to fall back on. Game 1 I was able to get right out of the gates with a hoplite T1 and then get to the point where it's a 5/6 unblockable threatening to kill him while I have a gods willing back up plan in my hand. I was able to snag victory game 1. Game 2 I mulled to 6. My first threat was a battle wise hoplite. There was some solid back and forth but it eventually came to the point where it's a 10/10 flyer, and he drops a crux of fate. I untap and deploy a seeker of the way and do a quick pass back to him. He almost had it when he tried to cast chromanticore (not soulflayed) but I was ready with a disdainful stroke. I sealed the deal a few turns later. 2-0

Round 2: Playing against Esper heroic. Actually I'm not even sure it was heroic. It was esper aggro with some random pump spells and heroic creatures. Game 1 He gained absurd amounts of life but I was able to just stabilize with a threat and keep protecting it. I was just beating in every turn and when he drew possible creatures to kill me with he kept blocking so he wouldn't take 5-6 damage. Just resulted in beat down, I had more protection than he had removal. I was able to win game 1. Game 2 was the WORST game I played all night it dragged on for about 30 minutes, when he could've won if he put his auras on seeker of the way instead of Bloodsoaked champion. Sadly for him, he didn't. I was able to get down to about 5 life, and he was presenting lethal. He decides to swing all out, and I drop a few combat tricks so he loses all 3 of his guys and I lose one. I untap and cast an ordeal of Heliod, I started bashing in with him and got back in the game. It was a really close game but I was able to win it. 2-0

Round 3 I'm paired against dimiroverlord playing GB constellation. Game 1 I had hand the was able to go wide and just started bashing in with 3 battlewise hoplites and a favored hoplite. I got game 1. Games 2 and 3 consisted of me having my hand thoughtseized away, and all of my threats being killed. Lost 1-2

Round 4 I'm up against jeskai tokens. Game 1 I'm still sad about, he was on 2 lands the entire time and couldn't do anything noteworthy. I sealed the deal playing solitaire. I think I was more mad than he was that that happened. Game 2 was really long but there was a lot of back and forth but I thought I had him dead on board when he drops an end hostilities. Post combat he casts hordeling outburst and I'm on a 3 turn clock. Couldn't get what I needed to win and lost to goblin tokens. Game 3 was awesome. I came out of the gates with a hoplite turn 1, into t2 defiant strike leaving up gods willing attack for 3. Untap deploy an ordeal of thassa and attack for 4 still holding up protection. He was able to stoke it and the wildslash it to kill it but gods willing was there, he was ready with a negate but didn't see that it put a heroic trigger on the stack, which saved my hoplite. He untapped and tappedout for a few different token makers and elected not to swing, trying to make me not want to swing into his wall of dudes. Fearing my hoplite would die. I had an aqueous form I had been waiting to use for a while and just deployed that. He untaps, goes to combat, attacks me and post combat drops end hostilities. This time I was ready with an ajani's presence. I untapped swung in and put him at ~3 life. He did the thing where if you have an out it's on top of your deck so you flip it and he windmill slams a flooded strand and scoops it up. I won it 2-1

Top 8 was next but I had to leave, I was 3rd going into top 8, luckily for me dimiroverlord was in top 8 too and paired against me. Worst case scenario ONE of us would win and make 4th at the worst so I just conceded and we agreed to split the 4th place prize which was 4 packs, 2 apiece. Final record, 3-1

Well first time at an FNM since RTR first came out; I went 1 and 3. I ran an Esper Dragon control deck and I am fairly happy with how it preformed. I'm going to tweak it a bit as far as what's main board and what's in the sideboard, but really all the matchups I had I felt as if I could've won.

The hardest matchup was against a 4c whip deck which snowballed out of control when my {Utter End} was negated while targeting his {Death mist Raptor}.

I made a few errors over the course of the night, but I look forward to playing again :D

How do I battle people

It's quite simple. You walk up to them and say something horrible about their mother, then you prepare for battle.

Stop them in your sights, open with a sweet one-liner, and toss a pokéball.
