Title: Combo brain boggler
Post by: Birdbrain on November 07, 2012, 01:36:07 PM
Ok. Just thought id make a thread like this for fun. So here we go.

The idea is to make up a card. Try to balance it as much as possible with costs/drawbacks. And such, and try not to make it broken. Then, using real cards, the next person tries to make a combo with the made up card. Then makes up a card to try and stump the next person. Flavor text can be added as an optional aesthetic part of the card. So I'll go first

Name: brilliance under pressure
Mana cost: 2 blue, 2 any other

Effect:
Enchant player
If enchanted players life total is 11 or less, for every 1 point of damage he/she takes, that player draws a card.

You have no maximum handsize

Flavor text: "she works well in critical situations. In fact, bein in danger is when she does her best thinking."

Wouldn't work. Necropotence uses life not dmg. Better choice would be {niv mizzet dracogenius}.  Ping yourself, draw two cards.

{Elderscale Wurm} and {Pyrohemia}. All you have to do is protect your Wurm an you have R: Draw a card.

 {Sign in Blood}

Not rally a combo, but nice for card advantage.

Card:  sex with peasants
Color:  white
Cost: {W}{W}{W}4
Type: sorcery

Effect:  target player receives one infect counter for each human they control.

As already stated loss of life does not equate damage.

I guess I didn't state that other people should make up cards as well. And other people make combos with them. Oh well, my bad

Ok. Here's one.

Name: intelegence drain

Mana cost: 1 black, 2 any other

Target player discards a card at random from his/her hand. You gain life equal to its converted mana cost. Draw a card.

Flavor text: "your brilliance shall be mine soon!"

Fairy in a Bottle - (G/U)

Tribal Enchantment - Fairy Aura [Common]

Flash, Split Second, Totem Armor

"Zwooosh!"

This is one of my favorite cards I've made, I've been working on a Zelda: OoT set for the past year. The Tribal aspect has relevance to the rest of the set.

I would love to play this set. If you ever get to a prototype stage, I know a Gorzo and some friends who would be happy to play test for you ;)

Haha alright, i'd love to play myself to be honest! I love the cards that I'm making, I feel like the power level is a bit crazy though, although, I look at current sets, and idk if is all that crazy, the new sets are nuts!

Ocarina of time? I'd love to try out...ugh! What was the Amazonian-like tribe in the desert? Can you make cards for them?

Gerudo, and yes, it's a creature type, they're White. They're the closest thing I could think of, next to just townsfolk, that could be white. Blue are the Zoras, Black was a little harder due to a lack of tribes, but it's mostly creeps, Red, Gorons, and Green, Kokiri. This is just a baseline, I have yet to finish creatures, but Like-Likes will be Blue, Deku will be green, Torch Slugs Red, etc. I'm working on this stuff almost every day, it's really fun!

Sounds awesome! Would love to see your mythics for that set.

Navi, Faerie Strategist {3}{G}{U}
2/2
Opponents play with their hands revealed.
{G}{G}{T}: target creature you control gets +2/+2 until end of turn. Then that creature fights target other creature.
Flying
Flavor text: "Hey! Listen!"

Black you got Ganon ofcourse.
Re-dead.
Skeletons
Poes
Dampe!!! ;D
Hands in holes
Moblins and bokoblins seem more black than red goblins tbh.
I feel like the gerudo would be black tbh.
I mean they dont have to be inherently evil to be black. (there i go bringing up racism again ;D )
Bats of fire and shadow :P

Also, super important creature for white: Chickens. Just remember if you hit them too many times, they go chicken-Armageddon on you! I still have nightmares.

Close:

Navi, the Fairy - (1)(G/U)

Legendary Creature - Fairy Advisor [Mythic]

Flying, Lifelink

Other non-Fairy creatures you don't control get -1/-1.

During your upkeep, pay (1)(G/U) or sacrifice Navi, the Fairy.

"Hey! Listen!"

1/1

The non-Fairy thing is because I'm making Fairys completely broken, and because she usually points out a weak point, the constant pay is because she is generally really annoying lol.

I know, which is why I said Black is creeps mostly, they didn't get a tribe such as Kokiri, Gorons etc.
I see Gerudo as being White, they live in a Desert (Plains), and they're warriors.

I've made Ganondorf, he's pretty insane.

No doubt gerudo will have vigilance. Most of them would...why would it be so darn hard not to get caught if try didn't. Also first strike, and possibly haste since there thieves? And wouldn't -1/-1 on all creatures kill some? Why not add a clause "...if this would reduce there toughness below 1, it is still 1." because she doesn't kill them. And the smallest enemies are easiest to kill anyway

Also, if each tribe had a speacil mechanic like the guilds in ravnica, what would each have?

That's a really good idea with the clause, definitely using that.

As far as unique mechanics, idk if I want to start doing that.

I got a real brain boggler here. Try and make a combo with this.

Cost: 2 blue

Time bend

Effect:
Reverse the order in which cards in the stack resolve this turn. (the first card played resolves first, an so on. Counter spells counter the card played after them.)

Flavor text: "gnineppah si tahw?"
(what is happening, only backwards)

{Worldfire}, response {Violent Eruption}. Too easy 😝

Here's one:

Red Sun's Collapse
Cost: (15){R}{R}{R}{R}{R}
Instant

Effect: Red Sun's Collapse costs {1} less for each permanent on the battlefield.

Red Sun's Collapse deals X damage to each permanent where X is the number of permanents on the battlefield. If a permanent dealt damage in this way would leave the battlefield this turn, exile it instead.

{G}{G}{2}, Tap, sacrifice The Great Deku Tree; Put a Legendary Artifact token Into play named {Kokiri Emerald}

(What the Emerald does i have no idea ;D)

Maybe the emarld could make a tri-combo with goron's ruby, and zora's sapphire. And also, if you have them all in play...um...you could play the triforce. Or maybe if you had them in play, plus the door of time in play, you could win the game or something?

I really want to make The Great Deku Tree a creature. It allows for him to make Deku Sprouts easier =]
Here are my renditions though.
Legendary Land cycle:

EDIT: Really dislike how blurry they came out here, I just copied to paint, uploaded to Photobucket, and they lost a lot of quality, I assure you they look a lot cleaner than this.
So far, I've made 20 nonbasics total, I think I'm going to keep it right there though, it's a nice number. I made the Temples all Enchantments, they were Lands, but 26 nonbasic Lands seems like too much, and as Lands they were a little broken, being able to tap for color in addition to what they do is a little crazy.

I know a tribe for black. The shiek, like impa. Though, I don't think there are many examples in the game, so you would have to take some liberties there...I'm sure there's a backstory on them somewhere

Just looked it up, it's Sheikah, not sheik
