I want to know the secret behind {Dark confidant}s high price. What makes him so awesome?
I think hes good but not 43 dollars good.
Thats my thought too!
But then again i also thought {Necropotence} was rubish for a while! ;D
I may have thought {Geist of Saint Traft} was dumb when Innistrad came out and traded him at about $2 or $3.... ::) Oh younger me...
I saw the relevance in this when I posted it, but I've forgotten what it was....

Card Advantage for {B}. He's not for every deck, but black aggro decks the curve is low and doesn't kill you. He swings for 2, he can hold a sword and its splashible.
What else is there really? Card advantage wins games, and {Dark Confidant} is card advantage. Plus, look at the alternatives. {Necropotence} is banned. {Sign in Blood}? Maybe.
Well i guess but 40+ i mean not even snappy's at that anymore

{Snapcaster Mage} is still standard legal. {Dark Confidant} came out 6 years ago, he's cheap card advantage and actually changes the way your deck can play and curve out. $40 is probably too cheap if you're winning, or have an advantage your opponent does not.
Control decks in Legacy have better options, decks in Modern do not.
Its all about the hypothetical draw you get with him in the right deck. Imagine yourself in a black agro deck it's turn 3, an your turn begins with your dark confidante on the field.
Best case scenario: you draw an extra card. It's the perfect 5 drop you can {dark ritual} into. You lose a little life and play a potentially game winning card.
Worst case scenario: you draw an extra card. It's a swamp. You lose 0 life, and got rid of a dead draw you would have gotten next turn without confidante. You have an extra land, in case you need it to play or to discard.
Usual case scenario: you draw an agro creature or spell. Lose 1 or 2 life. Use it to cause more than that much life loss to your opponent. Profit, have a nice day.
Bob plus top equals the 40 dollar price tag. It's a really insane combo that works really good for those who play it
{Sensei's Divining Top} is sad pants for everyone. (Not legal in Modern however).
I understand compöetly now thanks :)
But who's bob?

{Dark Confidant} is nicknamed after Bob Maher, its creator. Maher won the right to design the card affer his 2004 Magic Invitational victory.
Oh i see ;D
