Title: Deck cutting
Post by: prayos on October 28, 2012, 11:22:28 AM
Okay, I've been cutting decks this way for ages, and no one has ever complained.  Until yesterday.  Here's my cut:

I lift roughly the top half of the deck (section 1), leaving the bottom half (section 2) on the table.  I then drop the bottom 10ish cards (section 3) onto the table.  Then, I put section 1 on top of section 2, and then section 3 on top of the deck.

I mean, I beat this guy yesterday 2-1, and cut it the same way all 3 games, and the last game he just slammed his cards on the table and went off about how "I didn't cut your deck like that, so you shouldn't cut mine that way."  Am I a dick for doing this, or is he just being a sore loser about it?

People always sigh and roll their eyes when I shuffle their decks, makes me wonder if they are trying to pull something. I've also caught people mana weaving in between rounds, JUDGE!!!

Guys a dick. I don't cut that way but I've had people shuffle my deck as a cut. And I don't care. Course I find out that certain shop weirdos thing I cheat shuffle my deck. After the first game I will weave my leftover hand and graveyard and field together the shuffle for a good 45 seconds then pile shuffle after that then another 20 seconds of shuffling again. And they still think I cheat. If I knew how to cheat why am I not going 4-0 every FNM and always drawing the god hand. People are just dicks

The rules say:

103.1. At the start of a game, each player shuffles his or her deck so that the cards are in a random order. Each player may then shuffle or cut his or her opponents' decks. The players' decks become their libraries.

So you can shuffle/cut/randomize an opponent's deck any way you wish.  I'll also admit that I typically do a single courtesy cut of an opponent's deck.

Lol that guy is just being a sore loser. There are many ways to "cut", and all are legal. You can shuffle your opponent's deck, or just touch the top to signify you do not wish to shuffle. You must go to a very "competitive" FNM haha

Not really.  Was just a game day event.  And see, I was planning to drop, but only played him cause he usually beats me, and I wanted to see how my deck would do.  Even though I won, I gave him the win to the store.  I'm not a total jerk.  But after I reported I saw he'd already packed up and was leaving.

The only reason to get so upset about an unpredicted yet pefectly normal cut is if you stacked your deck. I'm not saying he did, probably just a sore loser looking for an excuse to blame you in a way other than "you played better."

And Will, I've caught people "mana weaving" too. What the hell. What makes people think that its okay to stack their mana, then not shuffle (but just doing a series of cuts so the lands stay like that)? I used to get annoyed by people who shuffle decks as their cut, until I learned about people doing this.
