Well packs are fun to open but it's pretty obvious singles are the way to go it's a gamble with the packs if your trying to score a jace or bonfire. I get packs for 3 and last few packs have not even got my money's worth out of em
Singles. I used to buy packs for trade fodder but its so much easier to just buy exactly what i need.
I like opening pack and I only play for fun. If I wanted to be more competitive I would do singles and common/uncommon playset. But nothing like the feeling when you buy a fat pack and get four good mythics or a box with ten.
I prefer packs but I'm a casual player and really only build edh. Occasionally I'll buy a few singles cause I need em for a deck
Definitely singles... Packs only if u need to feed ur trade binder... As written above but it is simply reality...;)
Or packs in case that u know that they will be worth it...;) formexample golgari event deck...:D
I like a little of both. I alway buy a fat pack, then over the course of time I'll buy 3-5 packs here and there, usually until my box is full. After that I can hold all the cards, know what I want to build, trade for what I need, and buy the rest in singles.
Singles. No doubt about. Packs are nice because you can get something sweet but singles are a cheaper way to improve your decks.
Start with a playset of commons and uncommons. Then buy singles. It's really really difficult to spend $100+ getting a box and pulling things you need.
Even the most expensive cards are mythics usually, and you'll likely never pull a playset from a box.
For RTR I bought a playlet of commons and uncommons, 2 x each rare, 1 x each mythic, cost me $400. iMtG is now saying those cards are average value about $900. Given the instant $ increase in some of the rares, e.g. Shock lands, it's worked out well, giving me a full collection set, and somewhere to start trading for extras or buying singles for rare / mythic playsets. I also bought a box for the fun of opening LOL, and got some good extra rares and mythics, although gave away nearly all the c / uc.
I do packs for the reason that I am not that familiar with the card sets most of the time because i am fairly new. Then I will do singles of what I really need/want.

Can you tell me where you did that purchase from for 400 bucks as that's what I aim to do for each set as they come out. Only problem is that here in Australia our local sources are a little slower at providing availability to such resources early on.
Singles.
Ain't nobody got time for that.
Interesting. This is all great advise! There are these repack thinhs on ebay and i was wondering if you guys know if they are any good

Usually not unless you are just trying to build a collection. All the good cards are pulled and your left with the crap they cannot sell or is not worth the time to sell. Once in a while you can get something that pops up in value in a later time.
I love opening packs and building my collection, but if there's cards I need I like singles.

Repacks are mostly filled with bulk rares. Sometimes they're not priced bad, and tell you what they removed. A buddy of mine got an Innistrad repack that all they pulled out was {Snapcaster Mage}, {Geist of Saint Traft}, {Liliana of the Veil} and enemy dual lands. It had a {Garruk Relentless} and other sweet stuff. It wasn't what id call a bad deal for abunch of bulk cards.
