No you just make a copy of the instant or sorcery being casted and use it on a legal target

How is that working out for you? I have thought about building a curse deck for casual play.
I'm about to play it this Friday night with all the rtr stuff in it it's just grixis control with a couple of Nicol Bolas in it, some mass removal and I'm pretty much gonna let the cursed do all the work
