Less cards is always better. The less variables you have to account for the smoother a deck will run. The game is good as is and wouldve failed long ago had the 4 copy limit and 60 card minimum for constructed not been established.

So you're saying a 40 card deck has an advantage over the 60?

To answer the question, 40 has the advantage. So if you are in limited and are wondering whether to build a 60 or 40 card deck, go with 40.

Well even in constructed, 40 cards if allowed would have the advantage. Think of combo decks that didn't have to deal with so much extra other crap before going off.

Imagine the extreme ends, if milling wasn't an issue, how well would an 8 card deck do?  It'd be awesome, because every game you have exactly what you wanted in your opening hand. Never a bad draw.

True, but I was only talking in terms of power level.

Probability dictates a lot of Magic the Gathering. Which is why card advantage is always the most sought after thing in the game. If we both have the exact same deck, were both the exact same player, my ability to see more of my deck will always have an edge over you being lucky (the hypothetical you).

You construct a deck never knowing what you might draw outside of the first 7. Which is why always shuffle when you can, always search your deck when you can and always manipulate it when you can. No one is a seer, a fortune teller or a mystic.

40 cards increases your probability substantially when playing with known cards. Always pick the increased probability of drawing the card you want.

Especially with things like Miracle, you can never profess to knowing when you'll draw a card with Miracle, so probability would state that you should expect to hard cast from your hand a {Bonfire of the Damned} as much as you would miracle it...because you don't know what your next draw is. It's an abstract concept, but true. It's not true for miracle decks, just a testament of probability.

This is the way it ways explained to me a long time ago by my buddy. I have a 8 card deck and you have a 16 card deck, we both have a card that says "I Win", who's most likely to draw it first?

When the game first started back in Alpha, constructed was 40 cards with as many of each card as you like. Those were the good days.
