Title: Graveborn
Post by: Greg54js on January 03, 2012, 09:50:01 PM
Is graveborn standard or just for casual?

Casual. The only cards that are standard legal are the ones that share a name with cards printed in the two latest blocks and m12.

It's legal for tournaments though I saw the grave born played at a standard

The only cards from the Graveborn that could be played in Standard are:

{Swamp} - Basic Land
{Zombie Infestion} - M12

That's it, that's all.

They're only legal if the original cards are still legal in that format.

For example, all cards in that deck are legal in legacy, so you're free to take that deck to a legacy tournament.

I just found this deck and got a pretty good deal for it...
But what changes do I have to make to make it standard legal? I love the theme so I'd love to play it at my LGS...

I think except for the basic lands nothing is standard legal

{Duress} is standard legal. That's the only card other than {Swamp} that I can remember from the set that would be legal in standard.

Edit: double checked - Duress is indeed the only card from grave born that is standard legal.

I would love it if they reprinted more entombs and reanimates. Not only do I love the reanimator deck style, but I want the price on those cards to drop so I can get a couple :P

{Entomb} especially! I hate that the age of extremely powerful one and two drops is more or less over. {Dark ritual}, {exhume}, the cards mentioned above, even {buried alive}. Makes me wanna cry.

Oh.... Ok... Just casual play then.:-)
So which decks should I look for which have the same kinda theme and are Standard legal?

I don't think there are any preconstructed standard decks at the moment that focus on Reanimation. If you're looking at standard only though, you'll want to have a look at event decks and Intro Packs. RTR, Gatecrash, and soon-to-come Dragon's Maze theme decks will all have standard-legal cards. Event decks are usually pretty good decks that even include a 15-card sideboard, and intro packs are moderate-decent decks + 2 booster packs (but no sideboard).

There are a couple of decks for the Golgari guild (Green/Black) that involve graveyard play, but not the same as returning creatures to life like {Reanimate} does.
