So I just recently bought a ps3 and I'm using a hdmi cord. About every 30 minutes to an hour there is a static or crackling sound that comes up til I go the the system sound settings or I unplug the cord from my tv and plug it back in. I googled the problem and those where some of the solutions. Another solution was to try a better hdmi cord so I bought a new one for $63 and i still hear the sound every 30 minutes or so. I really don't want to spent another (insert stupid amount of $$$ here) just to enjoy my games or movies. I was wondering if anyone here has had the same problem and knew what to do. I am willing to buy another cord I just want to know that it will work.
Air dust out the ports on both the tv and console? And make sure all your settings are correct.
An hdmi cord is an hdmi cord. The more expensive ones aren't any better so don't waste your money. What are you actually doing when this sound occurs?
Is it on a carpet? Is there a problem with the ground on the outlet? Are you using power bars/extension cables? ⚡⚡⚡

Sound settings are on the most basic settings right now. I'll air dust it when I can.

It is on my tv stand. And the hdmi cord is directly from ps3 to tv, and the ps3 I believe is plugged into an power bar.
Hmm. My best guess is that it has to do with the sound settings. I'd compare the tv settings to the ps3 settings to see if there are any descrepencies.

I'll look more into the settings.
Try a different hdmi input if possible and test. Try a different method of connecting it to your tv, (maybe composite?) if possible and test again. Try a different outlet (run an extensnon cord) and test. The point is make a change and test it out.
Forget what I wrote... Google is your friend.
From what I read you have a bad PS3. Hope you bought it new and have the receipt. Good luck.
Both imputs make the noise. And I did buy it new. I'm going to try a few more things. Last time I watched firefly on it it wasn't as loud. But if I can't fix it by the end if this week I'm going to find a number to call an actual person at Sony.
Good luck man. Kick ass and take names.
Ok so I'm pretty sure that it is my tv. Had my ps3 hooked up to my roommates new tv in the living for a few days and no static sound. Finally was motivated to hook it back up to mine and the noise popped up at about 30 minutes in.
I want to say thank you for everyone's help as well.

How old is the tv? Make and model?

I got it for Christmas I think 2 years ago. It is a 21inch Visio 1080p led. It has 2hdmi ports. Both ports make the sound when I play my playstaion but I don't remember it making that sound for my Xbox. I was going to try my Xbox tonight to see.
I have a feeling it's a grounding problem with your power bar and your ps3 is building up a static charge.
Grounding could also be a problem with the tv too, hard to say from here.

What would I do to fix that?
Just played on my x box for 3 hours and no static/crackling sound.

Try just plugging the ps3 directly into the outlet. As jester said it could possibly be the power strip
I have my ps3 plugged into an outlet with nothing else. And it has started agian. I have had it in the living room for a while, and I just put it back in my room. I may put it back in the living room until I get a new tv that I've been wanting.
Well after I had the game paused for a little bit it stopped making the sound and I've been playing for a little bit. So I don't know. It's late. Got little sleep over the weekend and have to be up for work in about 6 hours. I'll figure out something tomorrow.
Edit:
I'll figure it out Tuesday since I'm going to the midnight lunch of Dishonored and I'm picking it up 45 minutes away from my house. I see another not so good work week up ahead. Oh well worth it.
