Title: IMtG using lots o data
Post by: Gorzo on September 20, 2012, 12:56:04 PM
I can't figure out why, but I just learned that iMtG is using over 1.6gb of my puny 6.2gb iPhone, which is now full. Tried purging images which did nothing towards the size.

What else can I do to reduce the size of the app? Can I purge offline cache somehow? I couldn't find the option. Could my large number of decks in the deck builder be the problem?

I'd hate to start deleting some music to keep fitting iMtG (though it's a sacrifice I'd be willing to make, I use this app more than anything else on this phone)

Most of it is pictures cache. Purge Images should do the trick.

I did, still at 1.7gb. I'll try again though

Edit: still no luck, either purge image isn't working, or something else is the cause

Interesting. You may want to connect your device to iTunes to check the iMtG data folder.

Well that was an ordeal! I plugged into iTunes, and decided to use the restroom while it update device drivers (it had been a while). By the time I got back, it had started updating to iOS 6.0 without my permission. I figured fine, let it go, I'll check the data when it's done.

The update crashed my phone. Restored to factory settings. Lol yay iPhone 3GS! After 3 failed restores to the backup it had made, I finally got it restored to the backup. Yeesh.

Anyway, once I got THAT mess taken care of I peeked into iMtG's data to see why it was 1.7gb. Turns out, it had about 250 deck, binder, and database "backup" files clogged in there. Deleted! 1.5 of 1.7 gb gone.

Edit: I think what may have happened is that every time I've gotten one of those "updating database" doodads, it made one of those backups. And never cleaned up old ones.

Yes. Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt.

And to keep it secret, keep it safe.
