Title: Need some green help
Post by: RevanJJ on September 15, 2012, 11:09:53 PM
Im really new to Standard and rarely make green decks, but have gotten real lucky with packs I've won in tournaments so was wondering if you all have any tips.

I got 3 {Thragtusk}  3 {Garruk's Horde} tons of werewolves even 2 {Huntmaster of the Fells} and was thinking of building around these. 2 {Rancor} too. Basically loaded up on everything Dark Ascension to M13, and a bit of sets before so any ideas I can likely do.

Thank you all so much.

Horde is going to rotate in a couple weeks.

Anyways, if you want to go green, make sure you have ramp ({Arbor Elf}, {Llanowar Elves}, {Avacyn's Pilgrim}, etc.). One decision you should make before you build a deck is: where does your mana curve stop? A lot of times it is a good thing to have 5 be your highest CMC, but with ramp it is possible to go higher, like {Elderscale Wurm}.

A good plainswalker for green is {Garruk, Primal Hunter}. When you look at him, it is easy to go nuts about his ultimate. But hos most useful ability is his -3 ability. A great thing to do with him would be to cast garruk on turn 3-4 and do his +1. Then after that cast a big 5 drop creature and do garruk's -3. You draw cards and garruk doesn't die!

Do you guys think mono green is best? Thinking of going about 70/30, 70% green, 30% red for the Huntmaster, the few good red wolves I have, and some removal, then use like u guys said a lot of MC ramping to have a few Cards like Thragtusk, elderscale Wurm, ones like you guys listed. Pretty unsure. I do have one more Standard tournament before the 10/5 cycling as well.

Mono green is one of the strongest mono colors right now, dont taint it's power by attempting dual color without the proper tools.

Well said!

I have a {Rootbound Crag} if you want to give me a {Gilded Lotus} btw. Don't know what they are worth but if mine is worth more I don't mind doing a straight up trade.

Edit: lotus is .50 more. I can throw in some other things

Have 3 more? Maybe check my TB to see if I have more cards to do that. Just saw I only have 1 Llanowar Elves as well so could use 3.

Thanks for the help btw!

At least I can use my Thragtusk, Elderscale, and {primordial hydra} :)

Pm me either way. Very sick so if I don't reply right away just bear w me please.
