I THINK it applies to cards exiled from play as well, but don't quote me on that.
It wouldn't, for intance, work on hideaway lands...
I hope this isn't a dumb question, but what are hideaway lands?

All exiled cards are face up unless the effect that put them there specificly states otherwise.
