Im building around him. I'm also new. Tell me about red white blue staple cards and give me non staple suggestions?
Hmmm, my cousin has a {Numot, the Devastator} deck, I'll ask him.
He says a lot of Land Destruction. {Ruination} {Demolish} {Avalanche Riders}, that kind of stuff
Making Numot unblockable is kind of a big deal. {tricks of the trade} and {steel of the godhead} are brutal. Protecting him with {whispersilk cloak} is a good idea also. {Lightning greaves} and {Swiftfoot boots} won't make him unblockable, but are important in commander-reliant decks to protect h"said commander.
As for staples...
- blue has counter spells to protect your commander from board wipes and to stop other players' big nasties. {spell crumple} and {hinder} both can counter an enemy commander and send it to bottom of the library. {dissipate} is another good one, as graveyard play is common. Blue also offers card draw staples, my favorites being {trade secrets}, {minds aglow}, and {blue sun's zenith}.
White has the best board wipe staples. {day of judgement}, {wrath of god}, {austere command}, {Terminus}, and so on.
And red, well, red is odd in commander. Their usual fast-fast paced burn staples aren't as effective in the big land of EDH. Their board-sweep effects are good but are outclassed by white and black. From my experience, red ends up being more utility effects, that while essential to the decks they are in, are impossible to catagorize under "staples."
