Title: Foil values
Post by: RevanJJ on August 30, 2012, 09:31:35 PM
How do most of you value foils?

Especially when nothing is coming up on app or elsewhere.

Basically what would a foil of say a $6 (as an example, random #) card usually be?

50%-100% greater value so $9-$12 for a regular foil. Bow it gets much greater if it's a super competitive staple like {ponder}.

Dude it totally depends. If it is a common yet sees high play, the foil might be 5 bucks. If it is a mythic rare yet jank, it might be a buck.

Sometimes I'll use what starcity games sells them for.  My store looks at magic.tcgplayer at the card and scrolls down to where the foil prices start coming up and takes the lowest common price like a group all at 2.00

I usually just use starcity for foil prices

If you click on the prices it pulls up the tcg page and you can scroll price pages and around page 4 it starts to show foil prices

Me too and tack on 20%. And if I'm trading I take off 30% of the other trader value.

No you can buy it in a deck box so the price is lowered signifigantly but then raised slightly by delver play.

...what the crap? Haha

Foil prices are weird. I usually assume its 1.5x the normal price, unless it's a "popular" card seeing play (delver), or an EDH general or something. People love foil generals. It's the only reason I can figure why foil {Mikaeus the Unhallowed} is so pricey.

I go to the actual website of dealers like T CGplayer.com and put the foils in my cart.  I do that for most trades actually.

And most 7th edition foils are worth a lot

My LGS has a neat policy on selling foils, the either sell them at the star city price or at double the non-foil value, whichever is lowest.  So if star city charges $1 for a non foil but $3 for the foil, they sell it at $2

I use starcity for 99% of my prices if this app doesn't have it or if I'm doing IN person trades

Yea I think foils were a lot more rare back then.  Look at Urza's block foils as well.

It was the earliest printing of "Mogg Mom" in foil, it's black boarder, and it's popular in EDH and other eternal (read 💰) formats.
