Title: Ajani, caller of the pride.
Post by: Danielkix on August 28, 2012, 10:00:03 PM
So the way I've been using {Ajani, caller of the pride} is pretty much in my mind as an instant that gives double strike and flying for one turn. It quickly becomes a target so using it plus one ability I don't use it too much or get it all the way to its ultimate. I save it for either swings to end game or just when I can do big damage. Do you guys think that's the best way to utilize him?

Well, it depends on the board and how people respond to planeswalkers. But sure, that can be the right call sometimes

I agree. He's excellent on paper, but really just good in play. Heavy spot removal makes using the -3 hurt. With as many Aggro decks it doesn't help him any either since he's a target (bonfire too).

I tend to use his +1 to make him a big target and buy me more time. If my opponent doesn't go after him, then I can pull his -2 two turns in a row.

I run with 2 of him and have been known to sideboard them both out.

FYI, it's -3.

Wouldn't it be a sorcery? Lol

I for one am not a fan of this Ajani.  His real benefit is creating a 5 loyalty PW for 3 mana and hoping your opponent goes after him instead of you.

Yeah for me even with liliana I use her as a meat shield a lot. It's like...my opponent swings with a 1/1, casts pillar of flame on her, then uses gut shot to finish her. My opponent feels like he or she has the advantage while I am the one with the real advantage, because now I have more cards in hand. Pretty much every plainswalker is a gideon jura in a way.

I've seen his first ability used to kill a {Geralf's Messenger}, I thought that was pretty creative.

How would putting the counter on an opponent's undying creature work. Swing and when they declare a blocker add the counter or before?

Add the counter, kill the Messenger.
