I was around when alpha an beta came out but didn't start buying cards and playing till onslaught came out
I started in 1995. Played for about a month and didn't like it and gave my cards away. Picked it back up in 2000. Played for a year. Quit and have cards away. Now I started back in about February. And I'm hanging in there. No quitting.

I'm older than dirt and was around before the Ice Age - back in an era where I actually tossed around an unprotected Chaos Orb and didn't know any better because Unlimited was the current set at the time.
Now trying to get back into it a decade later, I don't even know to play anymore. You can't win with a doubly Unstable Mutated Flying Man in this day and age ... ;)

Started with onslaught then didn't play for about 10 years and I've now started picking it up again.

I started collecting pokemon cards when it first came out, then evetually moved into yugioh, collected then played conpetively for a year and sucked quit an sold out all my yugioh and got into this card game called duel masters, played conpetitively and did well untill the game died out and i quit all card games till my friends got me into magic when i was 18 and started playing when zendikar came out and now im 20 and kicking ash in every format but legacy lol

I started playing when Ice age came out. I can remember when {jester's cap} was the hot card to have. Then stopped playing when kamigawa came out. Just started again with dark accession. Goodness I feel old!!!

lol my brother was playing around Alpha time, and he quit and got rid of all his cards for very cheap. I recently told him how much some of that stuff is worth now. He was pretty pissed :P

Started around the original Mirroden and was my second year of middle school. Played through Kamigawa. Left after I graduated middle school, which was roughly the original Ravnica.
Started again during Scars of Mirroden, but mainly bought into the Innistrad block. Now I'm actually around for (Return to) Ravnica, lol. Now 20 years.

Ditto with me, started Pokemon when I was little, moreso just collecting the cards
Moved onto yugioh when it got popular 12 years ago, got bored started playing duel masters andDeagonball Z TCG (most epic card game ever was sad to see them make the new Dbz TCG then went out of business) then got into skateboarding for 10+ years now that I don't have enough time for skate comps and the such with work and all I play magic and video games haha

15 now started in ravnica, city of guilds. The new block has been bringing back great old memories.
New to the forum. It's nice to see that I'm not the only married guy in my 30's playing. Played from revised through homeland, picked back up at judgement until kamigawa, and started buying packs again on and off at m11. I went down to the lgs and played in the rtr prerelease now I'm hooked.
With all this talk of who is youngest can we older ones get some love? Who is the oldest on the forum? I will start. 45 and just started eight weeks ago.
Learned to play at 6 yrs! on and off been playing since now (10 yrs later) but only in the past few months starting to collect and learn about the whole of MTG. All of the time before was just random casual play.

I am 24 be 25 at the end of this month and ive been playing since planeshift! (since i was 11) i took a couple of breaks but i am still going strong!
Played Yugioh when it got big in the states. Naturally shifted into Magic. Played that for a few years and got out of it after Legions. Fell back into my nerdy habits once i got married hahah. Im 25.
Played in '95. Gave it up. Few guys at work got me back into it last summer and now I'm hooked again! Quite the difference from 18 years ago.

I'm 25 and I started when I was 13. I think that was the invasion set, then stopped after fifth dawn , made a lorwyn deck coz I think that block is the best. started playing again since innistrad up to the present.

I think what he means is that people who were born after Tempest (arbitrary expansion) being old enough to play makes him feel really old.
Likewise, I feel really old when I realize kids I used to watch in daycare are starting to graduate from college.
15, I probably have the least experience since I started in Return to Ravnica just a little while ago, but I've been playing standard and modern and I'm getting pretty good, I win more often then I lose, so that's a good sign I guess :)

I'm a fast learner and have taken alot o victories. My current record is taking down two opposing players that teamed up on me.

There are actually more than you think! I actually got into it because of how beautiful the art was; and now I absolutely love the game. I've bound a copy of the rules and I'm in the process of studying and learning as many cards as I can so that I can test for judging :D
That's sick! I've always wanted to become a judge and when I was 7, I started for the exact same reason, the art. Back in the early days of magic, the art was so "dark" I was fascinated by it. Death was the main theme lol back then I didn't care/understand what the cards did, as long as they looked cool

Yea! All I have to say is know the basic rules and ask questions if you don't know if something will work. That and don't be cocky.. I've played with too many people that are too focused on winning that they go overboard and become one of those players you avoid. I started out playing Pokemon and Star Wars trading card games in my younger years and slowly stopped. I've always been more of a tabletop board game, video/PC kind of gamer.
Earlier this year I was introduced to MTG and I didn't like it at first but after really learning the mechanics of the game and the ins and outs of cards I fell in love. I've been playing ever since and my card collection is forever expanding and changing.
So I guess you can say I'm a bit late to the party but I'm glad I came :)
I'm 21, I started playing a bit when I was 16 but lost interest in it and almost forgot about it. I recently got back into it about 8 months ago and I play all the time now :)

All you who have been playing for years make me feel incompetent! I started playing during Scars of Mirrodin when I was 12...of course I never really fully understood the game until around Innistrad, which is when I started playing competitively.
I started over the summer.. I'll be 23 in about 2 weeks.. π

My high school assistant choir director got me into the game lol and now look at me! I have a $1000 EDH deck! Lol
Needless to say I'm hooked XP
14, started at 12 in Innistrad. Barely missed Phyrexian mana and Infect!
I started back in 96 but didn't get to into it and stopped. I collected the cards for a while after that cause I loved the artwork. It wasn't till two years ago that my husband got me back into it and I love playing now :)
Also I am 24
I'm 19 and started in scars. Played casually since 2005 with random cards my uncle had. Really started competitively in innistrad and I'm here placing in Star City trials and almost top 16 GP.
23 started back in M12 when my cousin bought me a pack after forgetting that I played pokemon not Magic. It contained a foil Inferno titan which I then traded for my first deck
I'm 19, but have only been playing for about a year. When i was young, i decided that it wasn't as cool as Yu-Gi-Oh, so didn't play. Quit Yu-Gi-Oh in the seventh grade, and quit playing card games, dueto being in football and wrestling, and not wanting to seem like a nerd. Senior year, my buddy taught me to play, because he needed someone to practice against so that he would get better, and i loved it! (and i'm now massively better than him at it.)
17. Started in zendikar, stopped, then started back up after gatecrash was a month old.
joined Urza's Saga, quit at Mercadian Masques, and joined again from Avacyn, no more quitting from this point
I started with the Portal set in 1997. Played for a couple of years then drifted away until Duel of the Planeswalkers got me hooked again. I got the Sliver Premium deck then started collecting from Rise of the Eldrazi. Now I'm hooked for life!

If you started in 93 I'm the same age as your cards if you started in 94 then in older than yours cards

I'm 28 and was very late to the party. Only started playing during Innistrad. When I went to school I picked the Pokemon and DBZ trading card games as I couldn't afford all of them, and those are ones my friends were also interested in. If only I had more sense back then ....
I personally am an old man in the group at 34. I played a very little bit in high school in 94'. I was reawaken during rtr when I bought a battle pack for me and my daughter to mess around with. Now my collection is overtaking my bedroom while my lovely girlfriend tries to contain it like its an ooze, slowly eating the room (obviously I continuously feed the monster to keep it healthy).
19. Started in scars competitively and played through current. Was decent back in scars. A lot of rules and learning but became really good in RtR and innistrad. Now in theros block have people coming to me asking for deck advice and play testing and what not. I feel very accomplished. I can't wait to see the next level. Gotta keep pushing.
