Title: Legacy help

Hey all need help I have never played legacy. I built a mill deck but it is way to slow. I have heard that legacy games usually last for like 3 to 5 turns. So my question is what is winning? Would goblins be good or should I go affinity? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Mill is unplayable in competetive Legacy as most decks are using their graveyards as additional resources.  Unless you are running in infinite mana win con that can make them dup their library in one fell swoop.

The one thing i really like about this format is that home brewed decks are very strong. Theres so many cards to chose from. Just gotta think outside the box.

Or go goblins they are, for the most part, cheap mana cost and cheap on your wallet. You don't need to run ports or wastelands or badlands in them unless you want to shell out the extra cash but legacy goblins are a thing. Hope this helps you out! Cheers!

Goblins and affinity are certainly decks in legacy, though neither are really T1 at the moment. If I had to pick between the two, I would recommend Goblins, since the {Rishadan Port}s and {Wasteland}s are used in other decks (both in Death and Taxes and Lands, wastes in RUG, Jund, UWR, BUG, etc.)  if you ever wanted to change. Affinity is a deck that turns up with a top 8 now and again, but it doesn't have much additional power over the modern version (other than artifact lands and sol lands). If you like artifacts, I would recommend MUD instead.

Just to comment on the average turn length: it is a common misconception that legacy is some super-fast format where games are over in less than 3 turns. While there are some decks where this is the case if you have no interaction with them, those decks (belcher, SI, All Spells, Dredge) are not actually that good/prevalent in Legacy. Games between fair decks tend to last much longer than 5 turns, and even games against combo can take a while games 2 and 3, as the combo player has to play through all kinds of nasty hate.

On Cost: Legacy is expensive to get into, and I would not recommend it if you don't have somewhere to regularly play it. That said, if you can play it regularly, I highly recommend it, it is an extremely diverse format, and the deck you pick up will likely remain a playable deck for as long as you play.

I'm calling a lie on this one.  People Will always tire of decks and want to move onto a new one.  People get tired of their legacy decks too, and it will eventually get to a point where you can't force yourself to play it any more.  ;)

No, people will play decks like Goblins, Elves, and D+T in legacy because they like it, regardless of how they are positioned in the meta. Some people only enjoy magic because they are playing that deck, at least that seems to be the case with those decks. Legacy is the format where people can play their pet decks and have a reasonable chance.

On Dredge:
Dredge lives and dies by how the rest of the meta is expecting it. Manaless dredge has 0 outs to a resolved  {Grafdigger's Cage},  {Leyline of the Void}, or {Rest in Peace}. That doesn't mean it's a bad deck, but it makes playing it every week at a local tourney awkward because eventually people are going to pack those cards for the "dredge guy". It's a good deck in the right meta, but it's not good in every meta, no legacy deck is.

It really really depends on how you play dredge. I've never experienced manages dredge, but I doubt it can really be that fast.

However, there are certain dredge builds who could easily win turn 2. While some decks it depends on your hand and what you dredge.

Of course all of this depends on how you dredge, but in most builds it can be done quickly.
