Post by: Juggalonoke on August 25, 2012, 12:54:14 AM
How dose the madness mechanic acctuily work? I was planing running a {big game hunter} in a deck and the madness cost confuses me slightly

You exile it instead of putting it in your graveyard. Or you pay it's regular cost and put it in the GY

If someone casts a discard spell or the like you can choose to discard that, which gives you the option of casting for its madness cost (usually cheaper)

Madness works, like if someone makes you discard a card and it's big game hunter you can cast it instead for its madnes cost. Even if you had a card that made you discard a card you could pick big game hunter and instead of putting him into your graveyard you could put him into play by paying 1 black mana

Oh you young'ns!! 👴👴👴 Back in my day, madness was viable and popular!!

Anyways, when you're forced to discard, or discard as part of an effect ala {wild mongrel} you can pay the madness cost to put the card in play. If you discarded {basking rootwalla} you could put the rootwalla into play. Or {liliana of the veil}'s +1 ability where everyone discards a card. And pay the madness cost, which is pretty much an alternate way of casting cards.
