Use whatever is handy. My buddy uses glass beads for when he doesn't have tokens.

I use different colored dice for everything counters, tokens, static effects, buffs

I think by the end of the night the buds might end up going up in smoke

This is more likely than probable.

Honestly, I like using tokens. Just adds flavor to the game and keeps things in order. I'm OCD about things like that. In magic, my job, everything. 😁

Oh, I made a point to have a stack of human and demon tokens attached to my deck in different sleeves. Same with my zombies. Much more satisfying having 4 token cards out than 4 coins/dice/marbles, whatev...
Agreed...seeing an army of squirrel token cards is much more impressive that a few dice, beads, or buds (maybe firthat last one).

But the buds are the best for token.

I'm going to draw my own tokens and glue them to some spare basic lands I've got

I just use token cards with dice that way I know what they are and I save money on keeping track of my 86 wolf tokens, I keep 2 of each kind to show what's tapped

I sometimes do this too, but when some of them start getting counters, it makes it really confusing.
