Title: First FNM in a while
Post by: Coffee Vampire on August 18, 2012, 12:28:30 AM
Recently I have been busy making the switch from junk aggro/weird things to mbc...so instead of going to FNM I have been waiting for cards to arrive and testing my new deck on cockatrice.

Today I decided that I would go to FNM and just fill in the missing spots I had with other stuff. It turned out pretty good. I got second place, and can't wait for the rest of the cards to come!

Here is the summary of the night for anyone who might be interested:

Round 1 I was pitted against UW control. Games 1 and 2 went quickly. My hand disruption got rid of most of his threats. The only one he got out was a {Batterskull}, which I did not care about...and neither did my {Vampire Nighthawk} that had 2 {Lashwrithe}s equipped to it. Stats: 1/0 with 2 wins.

Round 2 was me vs. an infinite myr mana deck. Game 1 he only managed to get one myr out before I killed him. Game 2 he actually got his combo to work, and made a 2-billion/2-billion {Mikaeus, the Lunarch}. I killed the lunarch, but the field was flooded with myrs and he destroyed me. Game 3 my opponent got mana screwed with 1 mana the whole game. Combined with my hand disruption it was too much. Stats: 2/0 with 4 wins and 1 loss.

Round 3 I was set against the one guy I didn't want to face. He is really good and was running a B/G control deck. It plays like MBC, but has added perks like {Thragtusk} and whatnot. Game 1 I got {Liliana of the Veil} out turn 3, which he said is the one card his deck can't deal with. He was right. I won game 1. Game 2 was very close. I started with the upper hand, always either killing or making him discard his thragtusks (yes I had enough removal for the tokens too ;)). Eventually, I had out 3 {Staff of Nin} and a {Phyrexian Metamorph} that was a copy of staff of nin. He had one staff himself, and 2 {Pristine Talisman}s to keep my staves from destroying him. And then it hit me: I was going to destroy myself by drawing myself to death! It was 7 to 5, in my opponent's favor. I was drawing 5 cards a turn, and had 5 in mu library. I casted {Lashwrithe}, equipped it to a germ token another lashy had made, and swung for game. His next turn he would have cast {Sorin's Vengeance} for game. Now I know that too much of any good thing can be bad, even the card I swear by: {Staff of Nin}. Stats: 3/0 with 6 wins and 1 loss.

Round 4 I faced the one deck I though I wouldn't see when I showed up: werewolves. This guy was really good, and was also undefeated. Game 1 I had an answer to everything he cast. Wait until his human transforms into a 5/5 and then cast {Tribute to Hunger}? Yes please! Game 2 he got out {Garruk Relentless} t4 and killed my nighthawk to transform it. He had an enchantment out that gave his creatures haste. I used {Black Sun's Zenith} and everything else I could find, but it wasn't enough to stop garruk from using all the creatures I killed  against me with his ultimate.
Game 3 was the deciding factor. The moment of truth. I started out well, with a great opening hand. And then that moment came. I looked down at my hand and saw nothing there but a black sun's.  I killed the two creatures he had and he casted more. I swear I would have killed him but I drew SEVEN SWAMPS IN A ROW. That's right, {Sign in Blood} didn't help me; I just drew 2 swamps. When I lost, I drew another card. IT WAS A SWAMP!!! And next card was lashwrithe. As if it mattered. It was a good match though. I learned to be prepared for any deck type, and that I should shuffle my lands into my deck evenly after every game. Whatever. My deck isn't even ready yet. I am glad I made second.

I won 4 packs. I got 2 INN and 2 M13. Only notable was a {Primordial Hydra}. But yeah I had fun. And I love MBC even more now :)

Is that it for the story? U can't just tell a story and stop half way threw! The readers need to know what the end of the story is!

That's why typing on an ipod sucks. You accidentally press send when you just want to type more...lol
