Title: Does this work???
Post by: InfinitiveDivinity on August 15, 2012, 01:57:57 AM
The other day I noticed a combo in my Grixis deck, and idk if it works properly or not, if it doesn't, I cheated a win, but before I tell you what it is, I need 1 question answered:

When Unearth (The ability) causes a creature to go to the graveyard, does it just happen or is it an ability that hits the stack?

I took it as an ability that hits the stack, so this is what I did...

I had {Sedris, the Traitor King} in play, {Vein Drinker} in the Graveyard, and {Nightscape Apprentice} in play.
I used Sedirs to Unearth Drinker, killed a creep with her ability (irrelevant), and then once the Unearth trigger went on the stack, I threw her on top of my library with the Apprentice.

Does this work? If so, that's awesome!

I don't think it will work.
{Sedris, the Traitor King} specifically states " or if it leaves the battlefield" (Oracle text)
So if you try to move your unearthed card to your library that would trigger Sedris and the card is exiled at that moment.
IMHO anyway. Bet Jester will know for sure.

Don't sorceries only work on your first and second main phase, with priority and a clear stack?

I think this is correct.

You can't do that, but you could do something similar.

The reason is that the zone-change trigger will make you exile her if she goes to your library, even if you're responding to the EOT trigger.

Now, if you had something like {Volrath's Stronghold} and your unearthed creature died, the exile event will trigger and you can respond to that by putting it from the gy to the library (or into play with {Doomed Necromancer} or something).

Make sense?

{Cloudshift} or {ghostly flicker} would work tho, being that they do exile it, and then return it from exile. All party's will be happy (except your opponent) :)
