Post by: TheRecklessPlaneswalker on August 14, 2012, 11:16:09 AM
Hey everyone has any one used sorin in a standard? I keep pondering on how to use him.
Any ideas?

{sorin lord of Innistrad} is a really good card...it's just not appropriate for most metas it seems and the reason why it's tanked quite a bit in value.

He was great in the BW tokens deck i took to grand prix salt lake in march. Ive also seen him do great in planeswalker control decks and the liliana+{small pox} deck.

I used him for my junk deck as a 2-of. He's really good and I always liked him in my starting hand. Turn 3 sorin and turn 4 lingering souls+ flashback is pretty great.

He tanked cuz the hype is over.  He has always been a $10 standard card IMHO.....and a $5 card after he rotates.

I made a sorin deck last night actually, (sorin/tamiyo) I posted it in the standard section called tamiyo spirits.

Not sure how well sorin would play in it but he seems to fit

He was near $50 and stabilized at 25$ for more than a few months (4-6). The reason why he lost value is because b/w token decks were getting popular but aren't any more.

His abilities/loyalty/and casting cost are all appropriate.

Planeswalkers have gone from game changing to good assists, which is what they were meant to be. {Jace the Mind Sculptor} is the first and last of its kind.

Cards that aren't game changing usually hover around $10. Where there is no end to {Bonfire of the Damned}. It's got a year to rotate, Avacyn is done printing and that card will always be good.

I feel like I should trade/sell my Bonfires now, while they're hot (HA), and then get them back when they come back down post rotation.

SCG "the financial value of ______" is a good indicator of card values. They missed a lot of Avacyn Restored cards like {Bonfire of the Damned} and {Temporal Mastery}, but a lot of the community nailed it. The weeks leading up to Avacyn many people nailed that {Temporal Mastery} was nearly unplayable, and that {Bonfire of the Damned} was rediculously above the curve. (me being one of them)

The SCG articles are susceptible to hype. If pros are playing certain cards, or some cards are skyrocketing in price because of certain metas. A card like {Bonfire of the Damned} (hate using this as a reference all the time) was ALWAYS good despite whatever popular decks existed, tokens, delver, heartless summoning, ect. It's also a mythic rare that won't be printed again.
