I'm a cheap *bad word*, the most I've ever spent is $6 on a {Garruk, Primal Hunter}.
In my casual days it was $8 for a foil elvish piper. When i went competitive I decided $23 for a planeswalker was enough, and just bought boxxes for trade stock from then on. The planeswalker was {gideon jura} or {elspeth tirel} whichever my {U}{W} control was missing at the time.
$16 on a {Vampire Nocturnus} before M13 came out
9 on a Japanese {Lotus Bloom}
8 bucks on {liliana vess} now I do what the other guy said is buy boosters or booster boxes. Every once in a while I'll buy single for a crazy deck idea but I try not to spend more than $3 on a single
12 dollars on {Gisela blade of goldnight}.
Dang I kinda feel dumb for it, which I should but... 85 a piece on jace the mind sculptor when he was at 90. I got two of them.
£75 for a tarmogoyf (bought 3) 2 for £75 and 1 for £60) my 4th I traded for)

Not buying or trading for jace is why today i have the strongest trade stock second only to the tournement orginizer.

A friend of mine found one of those in my local game stores 10 cent bin lol
I spent 10 bucks on a {jace beleren} foil Japanese
350$ for an {ancestral recall}... 8 out of 9 down... Now i have to get a {black lotus}
$50 on near mint condition {force of will} I bought the 2 he had
$200 for a mint unlimited {Mox Ruby}... This was about 10 years ago.
4 {Tundra} (about $100 a piece), 2 {Jace, the Mind Scuptor} (paid $78 a piece) and 4 {Force of Will} ($55 each). Those are all in 1 deck.

$16.00 for a near mint playset of {Lotus Petal}
For me I think it was $17 on an {Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite}. As for playsets, I paid $20 for a playset of {Forbidden Orchard}.
I've spent 80 and 75 dollars on a card before,...
$16 on a {Glimpse the Unthinkable}
$4 is my limit and I don't think I even did that. I would rather take my chance and buy a pack.
Spent $50 on a shiny {Mindslaver} when the first Mirrodin came out.
I put it right next to my RIM stocks. 😓

In my defense, the idea of controlling a player for an entire turn seemed so OP! In my head I saw a cheaper (and so better) {Door to Nothingness}. Also, SO much fun in multiplayer.
In reality, it turns out more like the flavor text on {Telepathy}:
"The most disappointing thing about
learning telepathycontrolling a player is finding out how
boring useless people really are."

I wish man... That card caused too many problems... I remember when I showed it to my wife, she grabbed it and bent it just enough for me to nearly pass out. She thought it was fake... She is such a great gal... She made it up to me when she bought me a {Juzam Djinn}...
80$ for 2 {sword of war and Peace} and 2 {sword of Fire and ICE}
almost spent 40 bucks on a conflux foil progenitus
I have proly spent $1500-$2000 this year and the year is not over.....
I just spent 17 for an Italian {noble hierarch}. Got 2 of them and a set of {Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker} for about 90.

Same here. With FNM costs, variety packs of all 4 sets (5 intro packs, fat pack, booster box), sleeves, EDH and my irrational spending on Legacy...I spend probably $3000-$4000 a year on MtG alone.
Last year I spent probably $7,000...so I'm on pace this year (before RtR) to spend about the same...
$30 on a {Chaos Orb} all so I could annoy my friends when I activated it.

Woah. It must be nice to have that much money lol. $7000 is like my net worth lmao
Hrm... Recently it would be either $18 for a {Geist of Saint Traft} when he costed a bit more, or $25 for a {Tamiyo, the moon sage}. Most I have spent ever on a card would have to be $75 for a {Tarmagoyf}

Well it's in-line with what people my age spend on going to clubs and concerts (and drugs, and clothes, and cars). I just shifted my "fun money" into magic. My girlfriend is an unwilling participant.

Yeah, it seems reasonable in perspective lol. There are a lot worse ways to spend money. And the cards retain value so it's not a completely sunk cost. It just seems like a lot to me since I've had all of one part time job in my life and save and invest 90% of my money and I still don't have much lol. Oh well, a few more years of school and all I be good to go, assuming I can find a job...

I snagged a {tamiyo the moon sage} just today. I'm pretty sure it was the most expensive card I've bought at 14 bucks. I spent my cash on a single piece of cardboard. Cringe.

You traded fourteen pieces of green paper for one piece of cardboard. So? ;)

Good cal Jesterl! I feel better. The cardboard is much sturdier than composite fabric and the paint job vastly more colorful. And don't get me started on the health issues. Cardboard slips are far more sanitary. I'm going to trade all my composite fabric for cardboard :)

I paid $500 for a set of {underground sea}'s in June.

Must be a Kitchen Aid. My wife has one in pink that cost $400 and he hasn't used it once. And she gripes at me for buying Magic cards....
To stay on topic, I haven't bought any singles. I just buy boosters and trade for what I need.
