Meh

Kalitas seems boring for standard, maybe an aristocrats win con or win more con

I see edh flavor more than anything, but cards so far: it's the expeditions that seem like the whole reason to buy the set

I don't like that this is wotc's strat: give us a weak set, with lack of any real eternal playables & insert chase cards to hype buying. Everything in standard except for ugin, Gideon, Jace, nissa and the fetches is under $8. Seems weak for EV of boxes with this current strat, you're best off either figuring out your deck before rotation and buying the cards or collect cards by playing limited. Boxes seem like s bigger gamble now; before they felt like a pretty standard win with good pulls, now we get 3-8 playables and the rest is constructed (non edh) trash

The goal is to bring the speed of standard down. That means you'll automatically get less eternal playable cards. To keep selling packs, the chase cards have to be hype things, like the expeditions in this block.

Now, how much did the inflation from opening so many boxes for those fetch cards end up dropping price though?
That's secondary market. It doesn't hurt Wizards. Another thing you see happening is more competitive cards at Mythic (according to mtggoldfish that is). Mythic competitive card = more packs cracked to meet singles demand = increased revenue for WotC

Well
Scalding tarn was 350-450 originally as expedition

But I primarily look at format staples

Ktk had many great cards drop in price due to fetches overwhelming demand

But even Ktk had higher prices till about December, compared with bfz, basically you wanna open a Gideon, but other than that you're banking for an expedition. Everything else is pretty much bulk

Remember when dig was $15??! Rhino was $10!

Sarkhan and Sorin were above $15 too

I definitely began to notice that speed change with dtk and felt more confirmed with bfz and all those more expensive cards that do exactly the same thing as predecessors just a block ago. Now with oath, the tapped dual lands in the uncommon slot that don't do anything else? Come on! At least the khans ones you gained 1 life and they were common.

The lands in oath I really like are the one with the springleaf drum ability, and the waste with the ETB add one of any mana. Common too! I feel like a foil of the latter one will have some decent value.

The big leak slowed things down. We got too many at once, says maro.

Wizards needs to learn to keep their info shut tighter

You can't preview a magic card to a group of geeks and not expect someone to blab away

You assume it wasn't kept tight or that it was Wizards' fault.

It might have been from their printers.

Ok, so Stone Haven Outfitters just broke Skullclamp even more...
Nah, it gives the creature +1/+1, which negates skullclamps ability to kill immediately!

Razorfin Hunter already took merfolk to red in apocalypse.

In a way, so did Whirlpool Warrior

The new Izzet legendary seems interesting  definitely not a solid commander but a pretty sweet "one of the 99" for an izzet deck. Also, it's a red/blue merfolk so that's cool. Tribal leader.... making merfolk the 4th creature type besides goblin, spirit and human to be in all 5 colors
I feel like there is more than 4 as well, warrior is one off the top of my head as well

Eldrazi Mimic
2
Creature - Eldrazi
Whenever another colorless creature enters the battlfield under your control, you may have the base power and toughness of Eldrazi Mimic become that creature's power and toughness until end of turn.
2/1

I think I like it.

yes, I don't mind paying as I play a Desolation Twin so I can have 3 10/10s...
At the very least it can be a destruction magnet for the threat it could become while sitting on the board.
twin bolt that thing in advance or at the last in response of the trigger.
