Going to go through the creature and non creature base. Explaining why they're here and why you should play them. The deck has been under some substantial editing. I've been working on it with some people with similar decks in the area. We've been working on it and this is the best draft so far.

Ornithopter- Good way to start the curve on this deck. Also a decent blocker.

Memnite- See Ornithopter

Myr Mindservant- Reshuffle's are important when I have Garruks hoard on the field and the top card is not a creature

Bond Beetle- Two counters on my general means a great curve

Arcbound worker- on curve, usually free. all around good.

Jawbone Skulkin- Potentially gives my general haste after a board clear. Usually great

Myr Servitor- on curve. Thats about it really.

Ulvenwald Tracker- Used as removal for whatever I wanted

Dream Stalker- More counters!!!???! all day e'ry day.

Runed Servitor on curve, dies and I get cards, you get cards, we all get cards. Everyone's happy.

Steel Overseer- Always good to power up my guys for more beats

Chief Engineer- Keeps me from being fully reliant on Animar. also on curve.

Phyrexian Revoker Lots of combo decks reliant on one card operating with its activated ability. Shuts those down while being on curve. Perfect for this deck.

Copper Myr If I don't have the counters, I'll have the mana. on curve, great for the deck.

Myr Sire- Chump blocker that makes a chump blocker. Nice.

Myr Superion- 5/6 for free with only 2 counters.

Walking Atlas- two land drops per turn is incredibly useful.

Muzzio, Visionary Architect- Getting four mana whatever artifact is close to the top of my deck is useful beyond compare

Pilgrim's Eye- Basic lands, Flyer, on curve, useful.

Myr Landshaper On curve. See Hellkite Igniter

Myr Welder Getting a mana rock outta this guy is great. Also fun to exile a blightsteel from an opponent's graveyard.

Master of Etherium- Powers up most of my creatures, Gets bigger according to the number of artifacts I control. usually rather large

Reclamation Sage- Great at getting rid of pesky enchantments and artefacts the opponents control

Shimmer Myr- Flashing in the beater creatures is pretty great.

Vorel of the Hull Clade- Counter doubling is incredibly useful in this deck.

Somberwald Sage- Mana Acceleration is so useful. Like you already know.

Omnath Locus of Mana- Saving up for a beater. on curve. makes it so I'm not reliant on my general

Manaplasm- Gets really big rather quickly. Becomes a threat unless immediately removed.

Lodestone Golem- Really only taxes my opponents. Doesn't effect me a whole lot.

Nylea God of the Hunt Trampling my non trampling beaters in good. So is buffing things to no end. Rarely a creature though.

Darksteel Juggernaut- Gets big, Indestructible, on curve. Good

Clockwork Hydra, Needs a replacement. Its just on curve.

Prophet of kruphix- see Shimmer Myr

Kudoltha Forgemaster- Tinker on a stick. I can drop the tokens I create through Myr battlesphere and Thopter Assembly.

Thopter Assembly Big dude that turns into more dudes that are good at chump blocking.

Scuttling doom Engine- Good beater. When taken out doubles as removal. Also on curve

Soul of the Harvest- One of the creatures I need to begin the storm of death. So powerful.

Wurmcoil Engine- There's a reason its played in tron. (Taysby looking at you). that is also why its played in here.

Hellkite Igniter- Beats for twenty on t5 or better. Good in here. powerful

Garruk's Horde Other half of the storm

Triskelavus- on curve. Can poke creatures for small amounts of mana.

Myr Battlesphere Beater to the death. Much power.

Memnarch One of the more powerful creatures in the deck. Can steal what I need, Can steal an Avacyn. Gets dumb. gets fun though.

Pentavus- Makes dudes. On curve. worth the slot.

Craterhoof Behemoth Beats for a billion!!!

Platinum Emperion- 8/8 Protects me from death. also on curve. Good card.

Inkwell Leviathan- Large creature. Shroud. Can't be blocked in most cases. Solid blocker when it can't. All around really nice.

Darksteel Collossus- Almost at the top of the curve. Massive beater. Hard to deal with for a lot of decks.

Blightsteel Colossus- The top of the curve. The second biggest threat in the deck. Such power. Cannot be tamed by mere mortals.

Brainstorm-This should be obvious. It's brainstorm.

Rapid Hybridization- some solid removal for the deck

Signal the Clans- can be used early game to find the curve starters, can be used late game to find beaters or storm creators. solid addition

Cyclonic Rift- Can be used when the opponents have an overwhelming force. Can also be used to wipe everyone else's board for the kill.

Darksteel Ingot- Solid colour fixing. Only 3 mana. Also acceleration

Mizzium Transreliquat- Can be used to copy a big beater creature I have on the field or an artifact the opponent controls that I want to control.

Dissolve- Its a counterspell that allows me to check wether or not the top card is a creature. Solid in this deck

Dissipate- Exiles whatever I need to exile when they cast it. Good against reanimator or Eldrazi.

Counterflux- The counterspell to end all counter wars. Just so good

Chromatic Lantern- Makes my lands tap for whatever I need. Solid in any deck.

Increasing Savagery- Loads of free creatures and I don't need any to get the curve going.

Garruk, Primal Hunter- Used only to draw cards. Thats pretty much it.

Tezzeret The Seeker- Untaps my creatures, Untaps my mana rocks, tutors for dudes. Solid.

Gilded Lotus- Because Gilded Lotus

Thoughtcast- 2 cards, one mana, really good.

Temporal Mastery- Extra turns mean that extra push for the kill.

Darksteel Forge- Makes almost my entire creature base indestructible

now comes the question, Where'd the eldrazi go? Well the curve was too top heavy. I had to change it. They had to go. Shame really.

The Community Deck Spotlight asks for an interesting story. Here goes

So a couple weeks ago, a young man walked into monday night EDH with an Animar commander deck. As we sat down because we were paired against each other, I saw that they're deck was incredibly similar to mine, even though I hade never met this person before. Turns out it was someone who had seen my deck here on the forum and decided to build it. So after comparing notes and decks we think we have our best drafts for our playstyles.

-Tormod's Crypt
+Doubling Season
the crypt doesnt seem very useful in this deck because it kill the opponent fast enough that you dont need it and doulbing the counters on animar seems like a better idea IMO

I did that for a while then some guy with a The Mimeoplasm deck showed up at my LGS and so that's in there because he's really the only one I play with regularly

Mycosynth Lattice with your darksteel forge you'll be immune to any land destruction and animar will be indestructible too. Also Memnarch will be able to steal anything. And since you're running red, if you use mycosynth and have the forge on the field, Shatterstorm will provide a cheap and very filthy unfair boardwipe. If it goes off in your favor you can effectively win the game, even without the forge on the field you can still pretty much restart the game with it. It's like a really cheap Jokulhaups. Also with the lattice on the field Shatter is cheap instant speed removal for anything, combo pieces or just big beaters you don't want to stay around too long. And since you're running blue you can throw some artifact tutors in there to make sure you can get both the forge and the lattice out consistently. Also, with the lattice throw in a Hellkite Tyrant as an alternate win con, with animar on the field you could cast him for pretty cheap. He's an easy way to win and a nasty way to steal your opponents board.

The thing is I end up combining out turn four so Mycosynth Lattice doesn't even hit the field. I'm already running Memnarch. Hell kite tyrant will be added though

Doubling SeasonPrimal VigorVorel of the Hull CladeIncreasing Savagery and  Triskelion. I feel like all of these would work with the deck.

I don't really need stuff to put counters on Animar because I'm playing creatures for free and throwing more counters on him which allows me to play more free stuff

Just went to an EDH tournament. Went 5-0 with this deck. Beat a Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius deck, a The Mimeoplasm deck, an Erebos God of the Dead deck along with a really weird Phage The Untouchable deck and my final boss was an absolutely insane Nicol Bolas deck

Nicol bolas, probably my favorite commander lol. Gj on that win. How'd it play out?

I combo'd out turn four and had 6 creatures on the battlefield. That means my Animar is a 7/7 and they'd usually scoop because they couldn't kill him. The one time I didn't combo out turn four I ended up wiping his board then throwing out all the Eldrazi creatures

Almost all good removal can't touch Animar. He has pro white and Pro black

That sounds nasty lol. That kinda makes me want to try and build a deck like this.

Animar recently jumped to 15 dollars and he's one of cheaper parts of the deck. The deck costs around 600 dollars to build if you were wondering but it's a ton of fun to play. Well worth the cost
