My attempt at standard

So I bought 10 boosters of variety of the standard sets. My wife and I split them to 5 boosters each to build decks and play together.

I pulled two {Godless Shrine} with both of my Gatecrash boosters.

Is this good or bad?  Haha. I'm a terrible standard player.

Also, if anyone else has had a similar experience, or at least with good cards I would love to hear about it!

Esper and Black devotion/splash white are pretty popular right now. Also I have seen a couple of {W}{B}{R} decks doing pretty well in the last couple weeks.

Nice. I may make a deck for fnm again. I'm going to buy a booster box tomorrow. Well at least 36 packs of the standard sets, just to get a good feel. Maybe draw a freaking mythic.

WB is VERY popular in standard you have 2 awesome bombs in {Blood Baron of Viskopa} and {Obzedat Ghost Coucil} it's a great control/midrange deck that is hard to beat

Should I bother even buying theros packs?

I will probably buy 18 dragon maze and 18 Gatecrash if that's the case. As long as that's where the money cards are. If theros has money cards, is it worth the risk?

NO! Buy 18 Return to Ravnica 18 Gatecrash RTR has the best value currently (I think maybe GTC is better now) regardless those 2 have the best value. DGM only has Voice BBoV and the occasional Shockland for money. Where's RTR and GTC have lots of shock lands, PWs, and good cards in general!

2. You can always just get singles lol you do own/work at a card shop if I remember correctly

Yes. My wife and I just recently started playing sealed with each other. As today I bought 10 boosters of a variety of sets 5 each. And built a deck with them then played each other.

Plus, I don't have many standard cards.

I do not take cards I have at my store. I would lose a lot of money that way. Business is business and my personal playing is different.

Not to mention I could get smoked by the irs.

As far as the deck goes, I would probably home brew something. I just needed to know which sets had the most playable cards.

I completely understand. Unfortunately I've been reading the horror stories! Makes me catious.
