I care, but not enough to stop eating meat altogether. I can't wait when artificial meet is mass produced, then we can have our cookie and eat it too.

I actually respect this position.

"My girlfriend's a vegetarian, which pretty much makes me a vegetarian." - Jules Winnfield

Whether you agree with eating meat or not, you cant argue the fact that Americans consume way too much meat than is necessary or healthy. I had to curb my meat intake due to health reasons, and now only consume meat two or three times a week. And even then it's either fish or chicken.

I've often thought about switching back to a vegetarian diet. This conversation has gotten me thinking about it again.

People will seek their own path in life. High fat diets for people who do not burn calories contributes to obesity. I also find it slightly disturbing when folks profess their love for animals, and eat at McDonald's or some similar cruelty factory. I believe there is a distinction between the animals they "love" (cute, fluffy ones that aren't harvested) vs. animals as a whole. That distinction draws me to the conclusion that they don't actually love animals more then they love the taste of animal flesh.

I'll say this for a veggie diet: it doesn't taste quite as good but it feels better.

I can't take the smell or texture of meat anymore. When I was first starting out I did a "weekend veg" thing to acclimate myself. Essentially you just eat vegitarian all week, and on weekends you may eat meat. Eventually I didn't even want to anymore, and the very smel of it makes me sick. I don't miss it for a moment.

I don't know what you guys are going on about. Meat is the tastiest stuff. Don't eat it I'd you don't want to, more for me.

Fast food as a whole is disgusting anyways. McDonald's is the worst.

Now I'm craving a giant bowl of tofu curry over steamed rice.

Ugh, don't get me started on fast food. Nasty. The comments about over-production and the animal conditions involved are for sure disgusting.

And Piotr, there are all kinds of fake meats on the market over here. Many are nasty but there are some great ones. If we're ever over in the UK my wife can make you a great shamburger!

Let me know when you are ;)

Still, beef tenderloin is not yet fakeable :(

When it comes to these debates I've realized it's basically all opinion with facts on both sides of the table. Paula might have said the word in the past and may still use it today (being raised in Alabama that word is rarely used in public) so don't blame the south for a lady's mistake. Second the whole she's is supports cruelty towards animals by cooking with certain meats so do a lot of people it doesn't mean they should lose their jobs for it. And finally the comment about the "southern charm" promoting idiocracy??.. That is baseless and borderline hateful towards a culture that may be a little different speaking or acting than other parts of the country.

For example: it's your opinion those are the words I said, and how I meant them. Where in fact they are not.

I would like to point out, that someone who has southern charm, is acually quite intellectual.  My best friend, born and raised in South Carolina has the same type of grammar, pronunciation as Paula Deen.  You know why?

It was how they spoke in her area!  Who would have guessed???  Guess what she is right now!  She is taking Calculus at the age of 15.  So far she has aced it.  So saying someone that has "southern charm" promotes idiocy is (in my opinion) very wrong.

Also, I was born in Virginia, moved to Alabama before I was one.  Spent years there, moved to SC.  I have not ONCE heard someone say nigger in public, or in private.  There is the exception of trials that you hear on the news when that is part of the evidence, but I have yet to hear it.

Luckily no one in this thread said that. That would be a very silly thing for someone to say,

It's like no one understood the context in which you were speaking. I understood 100% and as someone raised in the south, I was not offended.

This is why I don't try very hard to argue with people on here (or on the Internet in general.) People jump to conclusions and don't use their noggins appropriately.

Precisely. It isn't my first day on the internet, and on some level I know I will be misunderstood, ive have come to actually expect it. It's frustrating occasionally, because the Internet is the worst at portraying rational debate, but I at least expect that it doesn't HAVE to be - considering what I've meant to say is written for all to see.

I'd never call all southerners dumb, or anything else. That's what crazy people think. That is the exact "hate filled simplicity" that I'm against.
