Deathtouch

So let me get this straight....if I have a spikeshot elder in play as well as onyx Mage. If I use the Mage to give the elder deathtouch until the end of turn and then activate spikeshots ability and target a 6/6 creature it will kill it or does deathtouch only apply for combat damage? 

Deathtouch applies to any damage, not just combat.
